The new year is officially upon us and that means we’ve entered the second half of the season across a string of leagues in Europe. Italy’s Serie A has been riding a nice wave of momentum in recent times as a result of the nation’s success at Euro 2020 and now, everything is shaping up for the campaign to finish off in some style. The next step of that will see AC Milan and Roma lock horns in an enticing clash this week.

AC Milan

The blend of experience and youthful spirit has been boding well for AC Milan up to this point but after a disappointing outcome in the Champions League, they’ll need to re-focus themselves to ensure they don’t fall into the same trap in the title race. Inter Milan are starting to ever so slightly pull away and this next stretch of games will be key for AC to ensure they don’t lose sight of their rivals.

Roma

The Jose Mourinho experiment started off really well but has, ultimately, tailed off as the season has gone on. Nobody knows whether or not this is going to be a long-term operation but if he can make some shrewd signings during the January transfer window, there’s every chance Champions League qualification is on the cards. In equal measure, though, there are four or five clubs snapping at their heels.

Conclusion

Both of these sides are free-scoring and neither is particularly astute at keeping teams out, leading us to believe this is going to be a bit of a slugfest. Milan are starting to let the pressure of the title race get to them again whereas Roma, as broken as they may be, continue to keep themselves within touching distance. We’re going ton shoot for an entertaining 1-1 draw with both clubs having good chances to win it.
