The Premier League is back once again this weekend as clubs attempt to build some momentum heading into a busy winter schedule. Some teams have started off well and others have struggled, and in some ways, Arsenal and Leicester City fall into both categories. The two will meet at the Emirates on Sunday and while we may only be in October, there’s a sense of real importance to whatever happens in North London.
Arsenal
Arsenal fans have mixed feelings when it comes to their start to the new Premier League season, and they also haven’t quite figured out what sort of future they’re going to have under the guidance of Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard’s project with the club is going to take some time to really get off of the ground and that much is obvious, but at the very least, a spot in the top four needs to be viewed as the main objective – alongside, perhaps, another piece of silverware.
Team News
There are a parade of injury concerns for Arsenal to deal with heading into this game. Chambers, Martinelli, Mari and Holding are all still out whereas there are questions surrounding the fitness of Willian and Ceballos.
Leicester
Leicester City looked good in the Europa League earlier on in the week but in the Premier League, they’ve been a bit more inconsistent. Fans have been getting used to that under Brendan Rodgers but they’re clearly hoping for a bit more stability, and weirdly enough, a game like this offers them the perfect chance to get back on track. They’ll be viewed as the underdogs but when you take a look at some of their encounters in the past, it’s easy to see a route to victory for Leicester.
Team News
Vardy is set to be assessed after missing the games against Villa and Zorya with many believing the result of the entire game could hinge on his fitness. Ndidi, Amartey, Pereira and Soyuncu are all also out with Leicester having their back against the wall in terms of Rodgers’ team selection this weekend.
Factors to Consider
- In their Carabao Cup meeting earlier this season, Arsenal beat Leicester 2-0.
- Arsenal have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Leicester have won three and lost three of their last six games.
- Arsenal have scored seven goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Leicester have scored 12 goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
Conclusion
While Arsenal have had a few bright moments in recent months under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, we’ve got a feeling that problems are starting to arise at the Emirates. We’ve seen Leicester turn over Manchester City already this season and they’re more than capable of doing the same to the Gunners, especially if Jamie Vardy is fit. We’re backing the Foxes to secure a somewhat surprising 2-1 win to get their European hopes back on track.
