The Premier League returns once again this weekend as we continue through the early stages of the campaign. The opening weekend provided us with plenty of noteworthy moments but with 37 matchday still left to be played, anything can happen between now and May – and we’ve only just gotten started. Today, we’re going to preview what should be a fun clash between Arsenal and Leicester City.
Arsenal
Arsenal fans can be forgiven for feeling optimistic this season given that they’ve had a good transfer window, a good pre-season, and a win on the opening night. They’ve got a young squad that’s stacked with talent and a manager who is ready for them to break through to the next level, so why is there still a layer of pessimism in the air? Probably, we’d imagine, because of their track record in recent years.
Team News
Vieira and Smith Rowe are both considered to be fitness doubts with many believing the hosts will keep the same starting XI from the Palace win.
Leicester
Leicester City have been up and down many times across the last few years and in a lot of ways, this does sort of feel like Brendan Rodgers’ last stand. They’ve still got an exciting team but they’ve lost a couple of notable names and if they arent pushing for European football in one way or the other by the time we reach April and May, many questions may be asked – and rightly so, we’d argue.
Team News
Barnes, Pereira and Bertrand have all been ruled out through injury here with Fofana and Maddison’s transfer future leaving their roles in this game in doubt.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in March, Arsenal beat Leicester 2-0.
- Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in their Premier League opener.
- Leicester drew 2-2 with Brentford in their Premier League opener.
- Arsenal finished 5th in the Premier League last season.
- Leicester finished 8th in the Premier League last season.
Conclusion
Arsenal are going to be given a tough time by a Leicester side that always knows how to stay in the game. The visitors are defensively sound when they want to be and have some impressive attacking options going forward but in our view, when push comes to shove, they won’t be able to hold the Gunners off as Mikel Arteta’s side take home a 2-1 win to keep their 100% start going.
