The Premier League continues to roll on as we look ahead to what is set to be the final month of the season in July. While the title may have already been decided, there’s still a whole lot left to play for with the European places and the relegation spots yet to be determined. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at a game between two clubs who are in very different spots as European-chasing Arsenal prepare to host bottom of the table Norwich City at the Emirates.
Arsenal
While they may have booked their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, there are still plenty of questions surrounding what kind of season this will turn out to be for the Gunners. They’ve struggled to make an impact in the Premier League since the lockdown was lifted, and you have to wonder whether or not this squad is even capable of finishing in the top six – let alone the top four. Thankfully for them, this is the kind of game that should serve as an absolute gift.
Team News
The injury problems are there for all to see in North London with Leno, Chambers, Mari and Martinelli all being ruled out. Xhaka is expected to be back in contention after returning quicker than anyone expected, whereas Guendouzi, Soares, Torreira, Luiz and Ozil are all listed as doubtful.
Norwich
The Canaries fought hard against Manchester United in the FA Cup, proving that they do have some real potential within their ranks. Whether or not that’ll be enough to help them mastermind a great escape remains to be seen, because as we know, they’re cut six points adrift at the bottom of the table. Either way, we can’t imagine they’ll go into this game with any fear, especially after Brighton’s win against Arteta’s men.
Team News
Klose is suspended after his red card against United, with Tettey being tipped to drop back into defence. Byram, Hanley and Zimmermann have all been ruled out through injury.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in December, Norwich and Arsenal drew 2-2.
- Arsenal have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Norwich have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Arsenal have scored eight goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Norwich have scored three goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
Norwich just have to throw caution to the wind and go for it in the last few games of the campaign, because what else do they have to lose? They’ve already proven this season that they’re capable of getting at the bigger teams in the league, and even at the weekend they were able to show what they can do when they’ve got some real confidence going. Still, even though we think it’ll be competitive, we do believe Arsenal will come away with a much-needed three points.
