AS Roma and Hellas Verona will face each other in Serie A this coming weekend. The match between I Giallorossi and I Gialloblu will be held at Stadio Olimpico and is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm UK time on Sunday.

AS Roma

AS Roma are one of the biggest and most historic clubs in Serie A, but they have not been hugely successful in recent years. I Giallorossi do not tend to challenge for the Scudetto and often fall short of finishing the top four of Serie A. However, things could be different under Jose Mourinho.

Under former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Mourinho last season, Roma won the UEFA Europa Conference League. And they are now fourth in the Serie A table with 41 points from 22 matches. The former Italian champions are level on points with third-placed Atalanta and only three points behind second-paced Inter Milan. Now, it is unlikely that Roma – or any other side for that matter – will be able to catch leaders Napoli, who have picked up 59 points from 22 games, but La Lupa could certainly end up second.

Roma will take on FC Red Bull Salzburg away from home in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League knockout round playoffs on Thursday evening before their game against Hellas Roma at Stadio Olimpico in Serie A this coming weekend. They played out a 1-1 draw with Lecce away from home in the league last weekend which came after a 2-0 victory over Empoli in Rome in Serie A.

Team News:

Ola Solbakken is available for AS Roma, while former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum could play after recovering from a broken leg. Leonardo Spinazzola is on the sidelines at the moment due to a thigh injury. Nicola Zalewski should be joined by either Zeki Celik or Stephan El Shaarawy on the Roma wings. Rick Karsdorp could start too. Tammy Abraham, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Paulo Dybala could start in attack.

Hellas Verona

Hellas Verona went down to Serie B at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, They returned to Serie A for the 2019-20 campaign and finished as high as ninth in the table. Hellas then ended up 10th in the Serie A table in 2020-21 and ninth again in 2021-22, but this time around, they are in real danger of losing their Italian top-flight status.

I Gialloblu are really struggling at the moment and could get relegated to Serie B at the end of the season. Hellas are currently third from bottom in the Serie A table with 17 points from 22 matches, just two points behind 17th-placed Spezia. They are also six points above Sampdoria, who are second from bottom in the standings.

Hellas will head into the Serie A match against AS Roma away from home at Stadio Olympico this coming weekend on the back of a 1-0 victory over Salernitana in front of their own fans at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi. It came after a 1-1 draw with Lazio at home in the league and followed a 1-1 draw with Udinese on the road in Serie A.

Team News:

Hellas Verona are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Adolfo Julian Gaich is set to lead the line for the visiting team.

Key Factors to Consider

  • AS Roma have scored 29 goals in 22 Serie A matches so far this season.
  • AS Roma have conceded 19 goals in 22 Serie A matches so far this season.
  • Hellas Verona have scored 20 goals in 22 Serie A games so far this campaign.
  • Hellas Verona have conceded 33 goals in 22 Serie A games so far this campaign.
  • Paulo Dybala has scored 8 goals and give 6 assists in 16 Serie A matches for AS Roma.

Conclusion

Hellas Verona are in real danger of getting relegated to Serie B at the end of the season, while AS Roma are challenging for a place in the top four. It is hard to see Jose Mourinho’s side slip up in this game, especially as it is in Rome. A convincing home win is the most likely outcome in this match.
