Locked in a three-way battle for final two Champions League berths, AS Roma need to try and defeat the Italian champions if they want to avoid extra pressure on the final day of the season. Juventus, on the other hand, have all but secured another league trophy and they return to Stadio Olimpico mere four days after the Coppa Italia final triumph over AC Milan.

AS Roma

The AS Roma renaissance began with Luciano Spalletti and continued with Eusebio Di Francesco, and we can now say this has been a very promising season. The Gialorossi are not only closing in on a top 3 finish in Italian Serie A, but they also reached the Champions League semi-finals, upsetting Barcelona in the process and coming really close to pipping red-hot Liverpool to a place in the final.

The Giallorossi will obviously be eager to continue the recent uptrend in fortunes, and sporting director Monchi already has ambitious plans for the summer transfer window, but the manager and his players will first have to get the job done and finish the league campaign in style. Four successive wins in the league (Genoa, SPAL, Chievo and Cagliari) saw AS Roma create a four-point advantage over fifth-placed Inter Milan, and with their top 4 rivals Lazio and Inter facing each other on the final day of the season, it would take a miracle for the Giallorossi to finish in fifth.

Team News

Kostas Manolas could miss out through a muscle problem, while Bruno Peres, Rick Karsdorp and Gregoire Defrel are definitely out.

Juventus

This season has been surprisingly eventful for Juventus, who usually ease off to domestic honours, but the team showed a great deal of character having never panicked when looking at the backs of Napoli and they eventually managed to secure seventh consecutive league title, making sure their domestic dominance continued for another year.

The Bianconeri also managed to make it four domestic doubles in a row as they hammered AC Milan 4-0 in the Coppa Italia final just four days ago, but they couldn’t reach the final stages of the UEFA Champions League despite coming close to overturning a three-goal deficit against Real Madrid. Even though Juventus theoretically need one more point to clinch the Serie A trophy, the reality is they will lift it regardless of what happens in the final two games, although the Bianconeri will want to defeat AS Roma and prove they will deservedly be crowned Italian champions. Having won 14 of last 16 away matches on all fronts, Juventus will fancy their chances of winning at Stadio Olimpico.

Team News

Juan Cuadrado misses out through suspension, whereas Stefano Sturaro and Mattia De Sciglio are both sidelined through injury.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Juventus won Coppa Italia final at Stadio Olimpico four days ago
  • The Bianconeri won 14 of last 16 away matches (D2)
  • AS Roma on a four-match winning run
  • Dybala (22), Higuain (16) and Dzeko (16) are in top 10 Serie A goalscorers this term
  • AS Roma won four of last six meetings with Juventus on home soil (D1 L1)
  • Giallorossi recorded 2-1 and 3-1 wins in last two meetings with Juventus at home

Conclusion

Juventus players may become complacent after securing another domestic double and chances are their opponents will be more motivated to record a triumph in Sunday’s encounter. And having defeated the Bianconeri in four of last six matches at Stadio Olimpico, we are backing AS Roma to continue the trend.

Verdict: Home win
