Aston Villa and Cardiff City will lock horns with each other in the FA Cup this weekend. The fifth-round tie between the Premier League club and the Championship side will be held at Villa Park and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Friday.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa are one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and have done extremely well under head coach Unai Emery. The Villans finished in the Premier League top four last season and are playing in the UEFA Champions League this campaign.

Villa have done superbly in Europe as well. The Villans have progressed to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League where they will face Club Brugge away from home. Villa are not having a great time in the Premier League at the moment, though. They are currently 10th with 42 points from 28 matches, five points behind fourth-placed and defending champions Manchester City.

Villa will head into the FA Cup tie against Cardiff on the back of a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace away from home at Selhurst Park in London in the Premier League. It came after a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Villa Park in the league which followed a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in front of their fans in the Premier League.

Team News:

Aston Villa are likely to line up in a 3-4-3 formation against Cardiff City. Emiliano Martinez will be in goal for the Villans. Axel Disasi, Ezri Konsa and Lamare Bogarde will be the three defenders. John McGinn and Youri Tielemans will be the two holding midfielders. Andres Garcia and Lucas Digne will be the two wing-backs. Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Jacob Ramsey will be the three forwards.

Cardiff City

Cardiff City are a major club in the Championship whose main goal is always to play in the Premier League. The Welsh side did rub shoulders with clubs in the English top flight not so long ago, and that aim is to do it again soon.

The Bluebirds are having a tough time in the league at the moment. Cardiff are 19th in the Championship table right now with 36 points from 34 matches, six points above the relegation zone. They ended up 12th in the Championship table last season.

Cardiff will head into the FA Cup tie against Aston Villa at Villa Park on the back of a 1-0 victory over Hull City at the Cardiff City Stadium in the Championship. It came after a 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle away from home in the league which followed a 1-1 draw with Bristol City in front of their fans in the Championship.

Team News:

Cardiff City are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Aston Villa. Ethan Horvath will be in goal. Andy Rinomhota, William Fish, Perry Ng and Callum O’Dowda will be the four defenders. Sivert Heggheim Mannsverk and Calum Chamber will be the two holding midfielders. Chris Willock, Callum Robinson and Cian Ashford will be the three attacking midfielders. Yousef Salech will lead the line for Cardiff.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Aston Villa have lost 1 of their last 6 matches in all competitions.
  • Aston Villa have won 1 of their last 6 Premier League matches.
  • Ollie Watkins has scored 12 goals in 28 matches for Aston Villa so far this season.
  • Callum Robinson has scored 12 goals in 27 matches for Cardiff City so far this campaign.
  • Cardiff City have won 2 of their last 6 games in all competitions.

Conclusion

Aston Villa have a much better team than Cardiff City and will also be at home for this FA Cup tie. It is very likely that the Premier League club will win the match.
