Following their first win at their new home, the Wanda Metrapolitano last weekend, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid will be looking to make it two victories out of two as they host Sevilla on Saturday lunchtime. Sevilla meanwhile will be looking to earn their fifth La Liga win in a row.
Atletico Madrid
The home team come into this match in relatively positive form as they sit fifth in the league table. Atletico have earned three wins out of their first five games and managed to earn a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao last time out. Their trademark defence has already been pivotal with the 2013-14 champions having only conceded four goals since the start of the season. They have also scored on average two goals a game since the 2-2 draw with Girona on the opening day of the season. Simeone’s troops have netted 10 goals with most of them coming in the 5-1 victory over Las Palmas at the end of August. Their home form has been exemplary in recent times and have won nine out of their last ten matches on home soil. Atletico will surely be looking to continue this theme on Saturday afternoon. Sevilla will have to hope Los Colchoneros fail to hit the target; they have only failed to score in three of the last 25 league games.
Team News
Diego Simeone does not have too many injury worries to contend with for the match on Saturday. Only Sime Vrsaljko and Augusto Fernandez are missing through a foot and muscle injury respectively.
Sevilla
Sevilla travel to Madrid in excellent form and should prove a tough test. Eduardo Berizzo’s men have earned victory in four out of five league games and this season and currently sit second in La Liga, two points behind league leaders Barcelona. Even more impressively they have won four consecutive games without conceding. As a matter of fact, Sevilla are unbeaten in all competitions having won five games and drawn three. They have not lost a game since a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in May. Los Rojiblancos do need to drastically improve their away form though if they are to take anything from the Wanda Metrapolitano. They have only won two put of their last eight away clashes and have conceded 15 goals in that time. Although they do arrive in Madrid on the back two consecutive 1-0 away wins against Getafe and Girona.
Team News
Berizzo is missing a few key players that could make their task at the weekend even more difficult. Summer signing from Manchester City Nolito is still out missing with a hamstring injury that has kept him out for three games.
Defenders Simon Kjaer and Sergio Escudero remain out with a shoulder injury and muscle problem respectively. Guido Pizarro is also still out with a calf knock.
Key Factors to Consider
- Sevilla have won their last four games in La Liga without conceding
- Sevilla have a marginally better record between the two (W16 D15 L14)
- Atletico Madrid won the last clash 3-1 at the Vincente Calderon
- Sevilla have only scored three goals against Atletico in their past nine games
- Both teams are undefeated in all competitions so far this season
Conclusion
Both teams come into this clash in excellent form and flying high in La Liga. Atletico’s home record should see them through but Sevilla will present a tough task and could be the first team to score in the league at the Wanda Metrapolitano.
