Atletico Madrid and Sevilla will face each other in La Liga this coming weekend. The match between Los Colchoneros and Los Nervionenses will be held at Estadio Metropolitano and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Saturday.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in Spain and regularly challenge for the La Liga title and compete in the UEFA Champions League. Diego Simeone’s side were expecting to at least compete with Barcelona and city rivals and defending champions Real Madrid for the La Liga title this season, but they will probably have to be happy with just a spot in the UEFA Champions League place.

Los Colchoneros are fourth in the La Liga table at the moment with 42 points from 23 matches, a point behind third-placed Real Sociedad. Atletico are as many as 17 points behind leaders Barcelona and 10 points behind defending champions and second-placed Real Madrid. Simeone’s team are only two points above fifth-placed Real Betis.

Atletico will head into the La Liga match against Sevilla at Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday evening on the back of a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid away from home at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Madrid derby. It came after 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao at home in La Liga and followed a 1-0 win against Celta de Vigo on the road in the league.

Team News:

Atletico Madrid are likely to line up in a 4-4-2 formation. Jan Oblak will be in goal for the former La Liga winners. Marcos Llorente and Antoine Griezmann will be the two forwards.

Sevilla

Sevilla are one of the biggest clubs in Spain and regularly compete for a spot in the La Liga top four., And they are also used to playing in the UEFA Champions League and winning the UEFA Europa League. Los Nervionenses have won the UEFA Europa League a record six times, including three years in a row between 2014 and 2016. They also won the competition in 2020.

However, Sevilla are really struggling at the moment, and it is very unlikely that they will end up in the European spots in the La Liga table this season. Jorge Sampaoli’s are as low as 14th in the league table at the moment with 25 points from 23 matches. They are only  two points above the relegation zone and could still go down to the Segunda Division at the end of the season.

Sevilla will head into the La Liga match against Atletico Madrid away from home on Saturday evening on the back of a 3-2 defeat to Osasuna at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. It came after they got the better of PSV in the UEFA Europa League Knockout Round.

Team News:

Papu Gomez, Marcao, Jesus Manuel Corona, Karim Rekik and Loic Bade are on the sidelines due to injury. Youssef En-Nesyri will lead the line for Sevilla.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Atletico Madrid have lost 5 La Liga games so far this season.
  • Sevilla have won 6 La Liga games so far this season.
  • Atletico Madrid have conceded 18 goals in 23 La Liga matches so far this campaign.
  • Sevilla have scored 26 goals in 23 La Liga matches so far this campaign.
  • Antoine Griezmann has scored 7 goals and given 7 assists in 23 La Liga games so far this season.

Conclusion

Atletico Madrid have a better team than Sevilla and are also in better form. And they are at home for this particular La Liga future as well. The former La Liga champions have won three and drawn two of their last five league matches. On the other hands, Sevilla have won two and lost two of their last five La Liga games. The Andalucian club are struggling to score enough goals and are conceding far too many. It is hard to see anything but a home win for Atletico against Sevilla in La Liga on Saturday evening.
