Augsburg and Bayern Munich will lock horns with each other in the Bundesliga this week. The match between Jess Thorup’s side and Vincent Kompany’s team will be held at the Augsburg Arena and is scheduled to kick off at 7:30pm UK time on Friday.

Augsburg

Augsburg are a modest club in Germany who are happy to finish in and around mid-table in the German top flight. Jess Thorup’s side ended up 11th in the Bundesliga table last season and will be more than happy with a similar position.

Fuggerstädter could do much better than last season. Augsburg are eighth in the Bundesliga table at the moment with 39 points from 27 matches, six points behind fourth-placed Mainz. They are in good form at the moment, having won three of their last six league games and losing none.

Augsburg will head into the Bundesliga match against Bayern Munich at the Augsburg Arena this week on the back of a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim away from home in the league. It came after a 1-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg at the Augsburg Arena in the Bundesliga, which followed a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on the road in the league.

Team News:

Augsburg are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against Bayern Munich. Finn Dahmen will be in goal for the home team. Chrislain Matsima, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Cedric Zesiger will be the three defenders. Marius Wolf, Frank Onyeka, Elvis Rexhbecaj and Dimitris Giannoulis will be the four midfielders. Fredrik Jensen and Alexis Claude-Maurice will be the two attacking midfielders. Phillip Tietz will lead the line for Augsburg.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are one of the biggest clubs in the world who could end up winning two major trophies this season. The Bavarian giants did not clinch the Bundesliga or the UEFA Champions League last season, but things could be different this time around.

Vincent Kompany’s side are at the top of the Bundesliga table at the moment with 65 points from 27 matches, six points above second-placed and defending champions Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern have also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League where they will face defending Italian champons Inter Milan.

Bayern will head into the Bundesliga game against Augsburg at the Augsburg Arena on the back of a 3-2 victory over St Pauli at the Allianz Arena in the league. It came after a 1-1 draw with 1. FC Union Berlin on the road in the Bundesliga, which followed a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen away from home at the BayArena in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

Team News:

Bayern Munich are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Augsburg. Jonas Urbig will be in goal for the visiting team. Konrad Laimer, Eric Dier, Kim Min-Jae and Raphael Guerreiro will be the four defenders. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka will be the two holding midfielders. Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane will be the three attacking midfielders. Harry Kane will lead the line for Bayern.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Harry Kane has scored 22 goals and given 7 assists in 25 Bundesliga matches for Bayern Munich so far this season.
  • Alexis Claude Maurice has scored 9 goals and given 1 assist in 21 Bundesliga matches for Augsburg so far this season.
  • Bayern Munich have lost 2 of their 27 Bundesliga matches this campaign.
  • Bayern Munich have scored 78 goals in 27 Bundesliga games this campaign.
  • Augsburg have won 3 and drawn 3 of their last 6 Bundesliga games.

Conclusion

Augsburg are in good form at the moment and are at home. Bayern Munich have won just one of their last three Bundesliga games, and  Augsburg will fancy their chances of eking out a draw. However, the Bavarian giants have a better team and should manage to pick up all three points from the encounter at Augsburg Arena.

Prediction: Bayern Munich to win 2-0

Best Odds: 11/2
