Barcelona and Leganes will lock horns with each other in La Liga this weekend. The match between Hansi Flick’s side and Borja Jiménez’s team will be held at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Sunday.

Barcelona

Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are a renewed force under manager Hansi Flick. Flick was appointed the Barcelona head coach in the summer of 2024, and until recently, the Blaugrana have been flying, both in Spain and Europe.

The Blaugrana are still at the top of the La Liga table, but defending champions and bitter rivals Real Madrid are catching up fast. Barcelona have picked up 38 points from 17 matches. Madrid are second in the table with 36 points. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have played 16 games. Barcelona are sixth in the UEFA Champions League League Stage table with 12 points from five matches, six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played six games.

Barcelona will take on Borussia Dortmund away from home in the League Stage of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening before facing Leganes at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in La Liga this weekend. Flick’s side played out a 2-2 draw with Real Betis in Andalusia in the league this past weekend which came after a 5-1 hammering of Real Mallorca away from home in La Liga.

Team News:

Barcelona are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation against Leganes. Inaki Pena will be in goal for the home team and will have Jules Kounde, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Alejandro Balde in front of him in defence. Pedri, Marc Casado and Dani Olmo will be the three midfielders. Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha will be the three forwards.

Leganes

Leganes are a modest club in Spain who are happy just to be part of the 20 teams in La Liga. They won the Segunda Division title last season and clinched promotion to the top flight of Spanish football for the 2024-25 campaign.

Expected by many to get relegated back to the second tier of Spanish football at the end of the season, Leganes are in danger of doing just that. Borja Jiménez’s side are only two points above the bottom three in the La Liga table with 15 points from 16 games. They are currently 17th in the standings.

Leganes will head into the La Liga match against Barcelona on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Real Sociedad at home in the league. It came after a victory over CD Estepona on penalties on the road in the Copa del Rey which followed a 1-1 draw with Alves in La Liga.

Team News:

Leganes are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Barcelona. Marko Dmitrovic will be in goal for the visiting team and is likely to have Valentin Rosier, Sergio Gonzalez, Matija Nastasic and Javi Hernandez in front of him in defence. Renato Tapia and Yvan Neyou will be the two holding midfielders. Diego Garcia, Oscar Rodriguez and Seydouba Cisse are likely to be the three attacking midfielders. Miguel de la Fuente will lead the line for Leganes.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Robert Lewandowski has scored 16 goals and given 2 assists in 16 La Liga matches for Barcelona so far this season.
  • Raphinha has scored 11 goals and given 6 assists in 17 La Liga matches for Barcelona so far this season.
  • Barcelona have scored 50 goals in 17 La Liga games so far this campaign.
  • Leganas have conceded 23 goals in 16 La Liga matches so far this season.
  • Leganas has won only 3 of their 16 La Liga matches this campaign.

Conclusion

Although Barcelona have not been in great form in recent weeks, they are a better team than Leganes and are doing much better as well. It is very likely that the Blaugrana will register a comfortable win in this particular La Liga game.

Prediction: Barcelona to win 3-0
