Bolivia and Chile will face each other in a friendly international match this week. The game between Gustavo Costas’s side and Eduardo Berizzo’s team will be held at Estadio Ramon Aguilera Costas in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and is scheduled to kick off at 1am UK time on Wednesday.
Bolivia
Bolivia are a South American minnow, and no one really expects them to do much of note in the international arena. For La Verde, qualifying for major international competitions is a big achievement in itself and is a dream. They have won just one match in over a year and are in dire form at the moment.
Since failing to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Bolivia have struggled badly in a run of friendly matches. They suffered a loss at the hands of Ecuador at the weekend in another friendly game. It was their fourth defeat in five friendly games since their 4-1 defeat to Brazil in the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifier.
The only win that Bolivia have got since January 2022 was their success over Saudi Arabia. They will have to face Brazil and Argentina in September during the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, and it will be interesting to see how they fare against Chile this week.
Team News:
Marcelo Martins Moreno will lead the line for Bolivia. The 36-year-old striker will get the chance to make his 102nd appearance for his nation. Jeyson Chura and Gabriel Villamil could start for the home team.
Chile
Chile are a major power in South America and do tend to qualify for major international competitions and also do well. La Roja have some brilliant players, and their recent success has been really brilliant to watch. South America have some brilliant footballing nations, and Chile are one of them.
Eduardo Berizzo’s side have won both of heir matches during the international break. Chile beat Cuba and the Dominican Republic, and now they will fancy their chances of getting the better of Bolivia. Ben Brereton Diaz is in good form at the moment.
Chile qualified for the World Cup finals in 2010 and 2014, but they could not make it through to the 2018 and 2022 edition. They will now be determined to get it over the line for the 2026 World Cup finals.
Team News:
Midfielder Diego Rubio will not play for Chile against Bolivia. Rubio is on the sidelines at the moment due to an ankle injury he picked up while playing for the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer in May. Victor Mendez and Williams Alarcon could start.
