The Premier League gods have been smiling down on us in recent weeks, providing us with some thoroughly entertaining games – and that’ll only ramp up as we look ahead to the busy winter period. One game that we’re particularly looking forward to this week is Bournemouth vs Liverpool, as two of the top flight’s free-scoring teams face off. Both have ambitions to do some pretty special things this season, but all they’ll be focused on at the moment will be getting through a (likely) difficult 90 minutes.
Bournemouth
Eddie Howe’s side know what it’s like to face adversity, and that’s certainly been their position over the course of the last few weeks. They’ve struggled to get going against some of the best teams in the division, but a win against Huddersfield ensured that they’re starting to get back on track. A good aim for them this season would probably be to finish in the top half of the Premier League table, although their faithful fans will likely believe that they can take it one step further and push for the European spots.
Team News
Lewis Cook could be out for up to nine months, with Dan Gosling still being out with a knee injury.
Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s one and only goal in the top flight this season will be to hunt down Manchester City, and it isn’t going to be easy. The Reds are the best possible contenders to try and claw the title away from them, though, and in any other Premier League season they’d probably walk towards the top of the table. Either way they’re still a thoroughly impressive team and they’ve got more than enough quality to deal with Bournemouth – and it’s just a case of executing their game plan to perfection.
Team News
Joe Gomez is out for up to six weeks following his midweek injury, and Sadio Mane’s fitness will also be assessed after missing the Burnley game with a foot injury.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium.
- Bournemouth have won two and lost four of their last six games.
- Liverpool have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Liverpool lead the overall head to head standings 9-1 with three draws.
- In their last meeting back in April, Liverpool won 3-0.
Conclusion
The big expectation for this one is that we’ll see goals, and plenty of them. While we agree with that sentiment we’re still curious to see how the Reds deal with Bournemouth, who are a team that just never seem to know when they’re beaten. It’s an awkward fixture in the middle of a very busy period, and we actually think the Cherries will take the lead. Of course, we’re talking about one of the best Liverpool teams of the last few decades here, so we do think they’ll eventually run away with it and the final score will be 3-1 to the visitors.
