The Premier League is starting to move into the business end of the season now, with just ten games remaining for every single team. This is when you start to separate the men from the boys, and this is also when we tend to be blessed with a series of surprising results up and down the division. This weekend we’ll get another full set of fixtures, with one of them being Bournemouth vs Manchester City. This clash should make for an interesting contrast of styles, as City attempt to keep their title push alive.
Bournemouth
It doesn’t seem like Bournemouth are in any real danger of getting relegated back down into the Championship, but you just never know in this league. When they fall they tend to fall pretty hard, and if they get themselves stuck in a rut at the wrong time, they could be in trouble once May rolls around. Eddie Howe seems to be smart enough to realise that changes need to be made, especially after their recent loss to Arsenal, but he may not want to push the panic button just yet.
Team News
Jefferson Lerma will finish up his suspension this weekend, with a few changes being expected after the loss to Arsenal.
Manchester City
Following their victory in the Carabao Cup, City are setting themselves up nicely for what could prove to be their most successful season ever. They’re amongst the favourites in the Champions League, FA Cup and of course the Premier League, and it’ll be interesting to see how they juggle their resources now. It seems like they’re capable of winning these type of games in their sleep, but the narrow win over West Ham earlier this week proved that they can’t afford to be complacent again.
Team News
Aguero could be rested after looking tired against West Ham, with Bernardo Silva, Walker and Sterling being tipped to return to the starting line up.
Factors to Consider
- Bournemouth have never beaten Manchester City.
- Bournemouth have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Man City have won five and drawn one of their last six games.
- Bournemouth have scored eight goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
- Man City have scored 16 goals and conceded three in their last six games.
Conclusion
The stars are aligning for Manchester City this season, and after a few shaky results earlier on in the campaign, it feels like they’re really starting to hit their stride. Bournemouth have been way too hit and miss to put any real stock into for this game, especially given how easily City dispatched of them earlier on in the campaign. History tells us that the Cherries aren’t great at keeping the score down against Guardiola’s men, which is why we’re predicting a bit of a goalfest. Bournemouth will probably get a consolation goal, but if Arsenal can put five past them, how many will City score? A lot.
