The international break has come to an end and it’s time for the return of Premier League football once again. We’re getting into the depths of autumn now and based on what we’ve seen thus far, the push towards Christmas is going to be as intense as it has been in a long time. Two sides who have exceeded expectations up to this point, Brentford and Chelsea, are set to clash this weekend in what should be a really exciting meeting of the minds between two of London’s finest.
Brentford
Brentford are known as the Moneyball representatives of the Premier League and when you think about the journey they’ve been on up to this point, it really is incredible to see them flirting with the top six. Some will say they’re simply riding a wave of momentum but it’s clear for anyone to see that there’s a method to the madness. They’ve got a solid squad, a rabid fanbase and the sensation of knowing there’s absolutely no pressure on their shoulders whatsoever.
Team News
Dasilva, Sorensen, Janelt and Baptiste have all been ruled out through injury with Ajer currently being viewed as a fitness doubt for the visit of Chelsea.
Chelsea
Chelsea are the reigning Champions of Europe and while there are expectations that come alongside that, they also know that this year’s Premier League title race is a pretty intimidating one. Liverpool and Manchester City are as strong as ever but after just a handful of games, Thomas Tuchel’s men are sitting pretty atop the pile. If they can start to blend that in with defending their crown in Europe, they could be on their way to a fairly historic campaign.
Team News
Thiago Silva is unavailable after his time with Brazil on international duty with Kante hoping to be back to full fitness after a bout with COVID-19. Pulisic is the only confirmed absence with Rudiger, Lukaku and James also being doubts for the game on Saturday.
Factors to Consider
- Chelsea are top of the Premier League whereas Brentford are in 7th.
- Brentford have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Chelsea have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Brentford have scored 15 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Chelsea have scored eight goals and conceded four in their last six games.
Conclusion
We do think Chelsea will be able to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table but they’re going to have to go through some serious adversity in order to do it. Brentford are renowned for giving teams a bloody nose when it’s least expected and in this instance, that’s precisely what we expect them to do. The Bees will fight hard but the Blues, ultimately, are just far too good to do anything other than pick up all three points against their London rivals.
