Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur will face each other in the Premier League next week. The London derby between the Bees and Spurs will be held at the Gtech Community Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 12:30pm next Monday (Boxing Day).
Brentford
Brentford are having a wonderful season in the Premier League at the moment and could end up in the top half of the standings. The Bees are currently 10th in the standings with 19 points from 15 matches, as many as 10 points behind London rivals and fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and six points above the relegation zone.
While no one at Brentford is getting complacent or getting carried away, it is very likely that the London club will not be involved in the relegation battle. Thomas Frank’s side are playing good football at the moment, and they should do enough in the end to survive comfortably in the Premier League.
Brentford’s last Premier League game ended in a 2-1 victory over defending champions Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium. It followed a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Gtech Community Stadium and came after a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League.
Team News:
Brentford are hoping to have up to five players back for the visit of Spurs. Kristoffer Ajer, Aaron Hickey, Pontus Jansson, Thomas Strakosha and Shandon Baptiste are all working towards match fitness ahead of the season restart.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur have not exactly been at their best and have been inconsistent at times tis season, but there is no doubt that the North London club are among the favourites to end up in the top four of the Premier League table this campaign. Antonio Conte’s side are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 29 points from 15 matches.
Spurs are a point behind third-placed Newcastle United and eight points behind leaders and North London rivals Arsenal. Tottenham are also just three points above fifth-placed Manchester United, who have played 14 games.
Tottenham’s last Premier League game was on November 12 before the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The North London club got the better of Leeds United 4-3 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It came after a 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground in the third round of the EFL Cup and followed a 2-1 loss at the hands of Liverpool in North London in the Premier League.
Team News:
Tottenham Hotspur could be without both Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentacur, with the former facing at least a month out while the latter should be back for New Year’s Day. A virus has swept through the squad, leaving both Djed Spence and Oliver Skipp as doubts.
Son Heung-min came off the bench, wearing a mask, in the 1-1 draw with Nice in a boost to Antonio Conte, while Ryan Sessegnon is in contention. It remains to be seen if Harry Kane will feature.
Key Factors to Consider
- Ivan Toney has scored 10 goals and given 2 assists for Brentford.
- Harry Kane has scored 12 goals and given one assist for Tottenham Hotspur.
- Brentford have scored 23 goals in 15 Premier League games.
- Tottenham Hotspur have scored 31 goals in 15 Premier League matches.
- Brentford have conceded 25 goals in 15 Premier League games.
Conclusion
While Brentford are the home team and are in good form at the moment, Tottenham Hotspur have a better side and have better players. While Spurs could concede a goal, the North London club do have enough firepower upfront to pick up all three points from the London derby in the end.
