The Premier League is back this week for a few fixtures as we gear up for the final big stretch of the campaign. The picture is starting to become much clearer at both ends of the table with teams fighting for the title, European places, the top half and to avoid relegation. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what has the potential to be another great derby day as Brighton & Hove Albion meet Crystal Palace.
Brighton
It’s been a dream season for Brighton & Hove Albion up to this point and it has the potential to get even better in the weeks and months ahead. The Seagulls are one of the most exciting teams to watch across all of Europe and their goal, unsurprisingly, is to play across the continent sooner rather than later. They have the belief and they have the talent, and all they need now is consistency.
Team News
Moder and Lallana are both out through injury with Lamptey currently listed as a fitness concern.
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace fans have been waiting for Patrick Vieira to turn the ship back around but for some reason, they just can’t seem to get any real momentum going. In addition to their problems in front of goal, there just seems to be no cohesion in what the first team is trying to do. If they can’t figure it out soon, they’ll be dragged kicking and screaming into the relegation battle.
Team News
Hughes will be assessed after a recent illness with Johnstone and Ferguson both being out through injury.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting on February 11, Palace and Brighton drew 1-1.
- Brighton have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Palace have drawn three and lost three of their last six games.
- Brighton have scored nine goals and conceded four in their last six games.
- Palace have scored three goals and conceded six in their last six games.
Conclusion
A back and forth, scrappy derby affair is what we tend to get with these two, alongside a bit of creativity from time to time. We’re expecting something similar but despite Palace’s best efforts, we can’t see them holding out in the same way they did during their game a few weeks back. Our prediction is that Brighton will be able to overcome the Eagles, and we think they’ll do so pretty comprehensively.
