As we move through the month of April there are still plenty of things left to be determined in English football’s top tier from the title picture to the relegation battle and beyond. Many fans feel as if they know the direction of travel with some choosing to look ahead to the Euros already, but before we get to all of that, there’s still a great deal of intrigue behind some of the remaining fixtures – and that includes Brighton & Hove Albion vs Everton.
Brighton
Brighton are known for being a team with a whole lot of quality but aren’t quite capable of putting the finishing touches on it all. That’s come back to bite them on several occasions throughout their tenure in the Premier League but through it all, they’ve been able to persevere and stay up. This season has proven to be quite tricky and yet they’re still powering through, and at this stage, one or two more big wins could do the trick.
Team News
March and Lamptey have both been ruled out of this one through injury. Elsewhere, there are a few fitness doubts within the squad – Connolly, Andone and Webster, all of whom will be assessed before kickoff.
Everton
Everton have had a rollercoaster ride of a campaign but the one thing that has remained consistent is the trust fans have put in Carlo Ancelotti. This squad clearly isn’t the finished product just yet and there’s work to be done during the summer transfer window, but the fact that they’re even in the race for a place in the top six says a lot about how far they’ve come. Now, the question becomes how much further they can go.
Team News
Allan is a fitness doubt but the hope is that he’ll be able to shake it off in time for the trip down south. In terms of confirmed absences the following players will not be playing a role in proceedings tomorrow – Bernard, Doucoure, Gomes, Delph and Pickford, with all having injury problems.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in October, Everton beat Brighton 4-2.
- Brighton have won two and lost four of their last six games.
- Everton have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Brighton have scored eight goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
- Everton have scored four goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
For whatever reason the wheels are starting to fall off for Everton in the Premier League this season and because of that trend, we actually think Brighton are the ones who will secure the win here. They have a whole lot more to fight for in terms of their top flight status and they’ll be desperate to bounce back and make a statement in the wake of the loss to Manchester United. It’ll be close, but we think a 2-1 Seagulls win is likely. Prediction: Brighton win Best Odds: 5/4 Bookmaker: Betfair
