After a weekend of entertaining FA Cup action, the Premier League is back for another series of midweek games for the masses to enjoy. The fixtures are coming thick and fast as we look ahead to what is bound to be a hectic month in July, but before we get to that, we need to round off June in style as Brighton & Hove Albion prepare to host Manchester United. While one may be desperately trying to avoid the drop, the other is attempting to relive their former glories.
Brighton
While some have questioned whether or not Graham Potter is the right man for the job on the south coast, the response of the club since the restart has been pretty much perfect. After a surprising yet impressive triumph over Arsenal, they were able to flex their defensive muscles against Leicester in a 0-0 draw against the top four contenders. With those two performances in mind, it’s hard to imagine that they’ll be all too phased by the visit of the Red Devils.
Team News
Izquierdo is still out of action through injury whereas Alzate and Webster are both doubts. Duffy is expected to start in place of the latter, with Lamptey hoping to maintain his spot in the starting XI.
Manchester United
It may have taken a while, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally appears to be back at the wheel in a big way at Old Trafford. Since the restart, his side have managed to go unbeaten with two wins and a draw – and while the late victory over Norwich wasn’t all too convincing, the important fact is that they made their way into the final four of the cup. Now, the question remains as to whether or not they can keep this positive run going into the next few weeks and beyond.
Team News
Jones and Tuanzebe are the only noted injuries for United with the expectation being that Ole will recall some of his star players after resting them against Norwich.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in November, Man United beat Brighton 3-1.
- Brighton have won one, drawn four and lost one of their last six games.
- Man United have won five and drawn one of their last six games.
- Brighton have scored four goals and conceded four in their last six games.
- Man United have scored 16 goals and conceded two in their last six games.
Conclusion
While United will be tired in the wake of their FA Cup exploits, we still think they’ll have more than enough to edge past Brighton here. The home advantage is gone, the gulf in quality between the two teams is evident, and United are finally starting to piece things together in an attacking sense. We don’t think they’re going to blow the Seagulls out of the water as they did to Sheffield United, but we’re confident in saying that they’ll get the win they need to move back into fifth place.
