The Premier League returns this weekend after a period of international fixtures. Crystal Palace travel to Burnley on Sunday lunchtime in the hope of picking up their first points of the season.

Burnley

It has been a decent start to the season for Burnley after an opening day win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and a point gained against Tottenham at Wembley. These great results were somewhat dampened by a 1-0 home loss at home to West Bromwich Albion but there’s no doubt Sean Dyche’s side will be brimming with confidence going into this fixture. Burnley were touted as relegation candidates pre-season but there’s renewed hope now that they can turn this campaign into a successful one. The clarets were very strong at home last year and it was actually their impressive record at Turf Moor that kept them in the Premier League after such a dreadful away record. Dyche’s men even completed the double over Palace and it’s hard to see anything over than three points for them on Sunday. Even though they have lost Michael Keane and Andy Gray in the transfer window they have managed to reinvest a decent chunk of money into signing Chris Wood and Nahki Wells from Leeds United and Huddersfield town respectively – and it could be these players who are successful in punishing an away side short of confidence.

Team News

Wilfried Zaha is still out after suffering a knee injury in the opening game of the season.

Meanwhile, Yohan Cabaye and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are expected to be in contention

Crystal Palace

It’s been a nightmare start to the season for Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer after losing all three games without even scoring a goal. Home defeats to Huddersfield and Swansea City either side of an away loss to Liverpool will have been disheartening for the boss who is under pressure to keep his job. A loss to Burnley on Sunday may be a step too far for chairman Steve Parish and he could be prompted to wield the axe. De Boer desperately needs a win but he could have hoped for an easier fixture than at Turf Moor. Palace are in miserable form and something needs to give if they want to pick up their first points of the season. Signing powerful centre-back Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool for £26 million seemed like a good acquisition, but it remains to be seen whether he can replicate the playing style his manager is trying to implicate on his team. It is stark contrast to the traditional and basic methods Sam Allardyce utilised last season and it seems they are struggling to adapt.

Team News

Dean Marney and James Tomkins are unavailable, while Jeff Hendrick is also expected to miss the match.

Mamadou Sakho could also miss the game due to ligament issues.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Burnley won both matches against the Eagles last season
  • The Clarets have recorded victories in six of their eight top-flight games against Crystal Palace (D1 L1)
  • Chris Wood has scored in over half of his league matches since the start of 2016/17
  • Burnley gained their first away win last season at the 18th attempt when they beat Palace 2-0
  • No Premier League club outside the top seven had more home wins than the Clarets last campaign

Conclusion

The only result we can see is a Burnley win. Dyche’s men are usually solid at home and matched with Crystal Palace’s dreaded start to the season can only mean one winner. Add more value to your bet by betting on Burnley to be winning at half time and full time.

Verdict: Burnley Half time/Full time
