The Premier League returns once again this weekend, as we prepare for the final set of fixtures before we all take a little bit of a break for the international sides to take center stage once more. The game we’re going to be looking at today will be contested between Burnley and Everton, both of whom will want to straighten out their campaigns after a few weeks of inconsistency. The Clarets will hope to avoid another relegation battle, whereas the Toffees want to get back to the heights that they were once at.
Burnley
It seems like a lifetime ago that Burnley were contending in the Europa League, and yet even with that being the case, there’s still a real optimism up in Lancashire that Sean Dyche can continue to guide this squad towards bigger and better things. They seem to have an imbalance within their squad which has cost them points at this early stage of the season, but with there still being a long way to go before we reach the PL’s conclusion in May, anything could happen.
Team News
Cork will be assessed before the game with Drinkwater being ruled out through injury. As a result, Hendrick could make his way into the middle with Gudmundsson also entering the starting XI.
Everton
Marco Silva’s efforts to bring stability to Goodison Park haven’t really worked out up to this point. The future looks bright and there’s certainly a lot of potential within what they’re trying to achieve and accomplish, but in the here and now, they just can’t help but slip up. This will be viewed as an incredibly winnable fixture for them but if they get in their own heads and can’t start to build a rhythm, they’ll find themselves struggling once again.
Team News
Walcott is set to miss out through a head injury with Iwobi being tipped to replace him. Gomes is set to be assessed with Gbamin missing out through a thigh injury, with youngster Kean hoping to start.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in May, Everton beat Burnley 2-0.
- Burnley have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games.
- Everton have won three and lost three of their last six games.
- Burnley have scored seven goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
- Everton have scored 11 goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Burnley and Everton are both in a similar position, in that they’re on the verge of doing some great things in the Premier League, but they just aren’t quite on the same level as the teams challenging the top six juggernauts. We think that’ll become even more obvious in this game, as the two Northern sides cancel each other out. We can see them getting a goal apiece but that’s about it, and while some may see that as two points dropped, we think it’ll be viewed as a point gained for both.
