The Premier League returns once again this weekend, with a handful of clubs having the chance to put pressure on those around them that won’t be playing due to the FA Cup. Two sides who fall into that category are Burnley and Leicester City, who are set to have very interesting ends to the season – but for very different reasons. They aren’t that far away from one another in terms of the stature of their clubs, but when it comes to their clash this weekend, it certainly seems like there is a clear favourite.
Burnley
The Clarets have experienced quite the fall from grace in recent times, although to their credit, the fans have stuck by their side in what has been a pretty tough year or two. They’re currently in the midst of the relegation battle once again, with Sean Dyche likely being well aware of the danger that they face. They’ve got a few match winners in their ranks but defensively speaking, it doesn’t feel like they’re on par with the Premier League level. There are certainly some teams as bad as them in the division, but that’s not how this league works.
Team News
Walters, Lennon and Defour will all be absent for Burnley this weekend.
Leicester
It’s been a rollercoaster ride of a season for the Foxes, and somehow, they could still come out of it with European football secured for next season. They’re on the outside looking in when it comes to the race for 7th, which isn’t even a guarantee of qualifying for the Europa League. Still, they’ve got a strong squad and if they can start to build some momentum, they’ve got a real shot of pushing Wolves & Watford all the way. They need to focus on one game at a time, though, as inconsistency has frequently been an issue for them.
Team News
Amartey and Albrighton are set to miss out for Leicester.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Burnley’s Turf Moor.
- Burnley have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Leicester have won two and lost four of their last six games.
- Burnley have scored nine goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
- Leicester have scored eight goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Both teams find themselves in interesting positions right now, but above all else, it feels like the Foxes are riding the wave of having a new manager in their ranks. Rodgers probably isn’t going to do a whole lot for the club in the long run, but in the interim, we think he’s going to get results. Burnley look like they’ve hit a bit of a brick wall in recent weeks, and with the relegation battle heating up, they could be one of the leading contenders for the drop. We think Leicester will come from behind to register the three points here.
