Prediction: Chile to win 2-0
Best Odds: 17/2
Canada and Chile will lock horns with each other in the 2024 Copa America this coming weekend. The Group A game between Jesse Marsch’s side and Ricardo Gareca’s team will be held at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida. It is scheduled to kick off at 1 am on Sunday, June 30.
Canada
Canada are a modest footballing nation who do not have a great track record in the game. Their most significant achievements to date are winning 1985 CONCACAF Championship, qualifying for the 1986 FIFA World Cup and winning the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup to qualify for the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup.
No one expects Canada to do anything of note at the 2024 Copa America. In fact, it is very likely that Les Rouges will end up at the bottom of their group. After all, they have Argentina, Chile and Peru in Group A.
Canada suffered a defeat in their opening Group A match. They went down 2-0 to Argentina at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez scored the two goals.
Team News:
Canada are likely to line up in a 4-4-2 formation against Chile. Maxime Crépeau will be in goal for the North American team. Alistair Johnston, Moïse Bombito, Derek Cornelius and Alphonso Davies will be the four defenders. Tajon Buchanan, Ismaël Koné, Stephen Eustáquio and Liam Millar will be the four midfielders. Canada head coach Jesse Marsch is likely to deploy Jonathan David and Cyle Larin up front as the two forwards.
Chile
Chile are a major power in South America and are one of the most historic and well-known footballing nations on the continent. While they are not always expected to win, they do tend to at least compete to go into the knockout rounds.
Ricardo Gareca’s side will fancy their chances of progressing from Group A at the 2024 Copa America. Argentina are the clear favourites to win the group, but Chile will feel confident of ending up runners-up ahead of Canada and Peru.
Chile, though, did not make the best of starts to their 2024 Copa America campaign. They could only play out a goalless draw with Peru at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Team News:
Chile are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Canada. Claudio Bravo will be in goal for the South American side and will have Mauricio Isla, Igor Lichnovsky, Paulo Díaz and Gabriel Suazo in front of him in defence. Marcelino Núñez and Erick Pulgar will be the two holding midfielders. Víctor Dávila, Alexis Sánchez and Diego Valdés are likely to be the three attacking midfielders. Eduardo Vargas will lead the line for Chile.
