The Premier League returns this weekend, and it does so with a series of intriguing games. There are stakes involved with many of the fixtures that we’re going to be treated to over Easter weekend, and to alongside it, you get to eat a bunch of chocolate. Sounds great, right? The game that we’re looking at today is Cardiff City vs Liverpool, which is the kind of David vs Goliath tale that fans can really sink their teeth into at this late stage of the campaign. At least, in our opinion anyway.
Cardiff
He may not be the most popular manager in world football, but Neil Warnock certainly knows how to keep teams in the hunt – whether it be for promotion or relegation. Cardiff have a lot of heart and they certainly showcased that against Brighton, because if they hadn’t of won that game, they’d probably have one foot in the Championship right about now. As it stands, though, they’re in with a shot, and given the fact everyone was writing them off just a few weeks ago, they don’t really have all too much to lose.
Team News
Gunnarsson is facing a race to be fit in time for this one, with Harry Arter also being a doubt. On the plus side, Mendez-Laing could be set to start after a great performance last weekend.
Liverpool
With a Champions League semi final to look forward to alongside an exciting end to the league season, these are pretty good times to be a Liverpool fan. Jurgen Klopp has built a team capable of doing some pretty special things, and now, it’s just a case of trying to see it through. They’re still viewed as the underdogs in the race for the Premier League title despite being above Manchester City right now, with Klopp himself confirming that they can’t really afford to drop any more points. No pressure, then.
Team News
Henderson, Firmino and Keita are expected to return after missing out against Porto, with Gomez being tipped to feature.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in October, Liverpool beat Cardiff 4-1.
- Cardiff have won two and lost four of their last six games.
- Liverpool have won their last eight games in all competitions.
- Cardiff have scored five goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
- Liverpool have scored 15 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
Conclusion
Cardiff are going to be battling for their lives and we’re confident in saying that they’ll give the Reds a pretty good game, but let’s face it, this isn’t going to be particularly close. The Bluebirds will probably try and play it smart for the first 15 minutes or so before going straight at Liverpool with everything they’ve got, but the title challengers are just too strong. We can see them running away with this game pretty emphatically, and by the time the whistle blows, Cardiff will be no closer to survival.
