As we continue through to the end of the Premier League season, English football’s top flight is back with a host of fascinating midweek fixtures in the next few days. There are clubs at both ends of the table who have something to prove, with pretty much all of them still fighting for something. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fascinating clash between two of West London’s finest as Chelsea take on Brentford.

Chelsea

This disaster of a season is, mercifully, set to come to a close in the next few weeks for Chelsea Football Club. The Blues have been going through a turbulent time right now and despite having a parade of top names behind them, they haven’t quite been able to make it work on the pitch. Frank Lampard, meanwhile, is ready to collect another big paycheck, as this strange campaign continues.

Team News

Koulibaly and Broja are both out injured for this one for the hosts.

Brentford

Brentford fans were understandably optimistic heading into the final few months of the campaign given what they’d achieved this season. Unfortunately, they seem to have taken their foot off the gas in a big way in recent weeks. They’re still going to fight for a place in the top half of the table, as you’d expect, but Europe may well be a stretch too far for Thomas Frank’s men this time around.

Team News

Jansson, Ajer and Lewis-Potter are injured with Norgaard being listed as a fitness concern.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in October, Brentford and Chelsea drew 0-0.
  • Chelsea have drawn one and lost five of their last six games.
  • Brentford have drawn three and lost three of their last six games.
  • Chelsea have scored one goal and conceded nine in their last six games.
  • Brentford have scored six goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.

Conclusion

Both teams seem to be on the beach already in one way or the other and because of that, we don’t think this is going to blow anyone away. The local derby feeling should lead to quite a physical affair with plenty of stoppages, and probably a lot of cards. We’d like to think this is going to be an entertaining clash in terms of the football itself, but instead, we’re going to predict a 0-0 draw.

Prediction: Draw
