The Premier League is back in our lives once again this weekend, just a matter of days after teams put themselves through a gruelling set of midweek fixtures. It’s always interesting to see how teams in the top flight deal with having two league games in a week, because most of them have no real experience of doing so on a consistent basis. The game we’re going to be looking at today will see Chelsea host Huddersfield, in an encounter that isn’t as much of a David vs Goliath bout as you may think.
Chelsea
Maurizio Sarri has been a polarising figure ever since he stepped foot through the door at Stamford Bridge, and it doesn’t appear as if that is going to subside over the next few months. His methods have often been questioned but, in many ways, you can’t really question his results. The positives have been clear and so have the negatives, and the Blues need to find the middle ground. That’s much easier said than done, but one thing is for sure – something needs to change if they’re serious about finishing in the top four.
Team News
Higuain reportedly has a fitness issue, which could allow Olivier Giroud to make a rare start.
Huddersfield
It’s a difficult position for Huddersfield fans to be in, as it seems like only a matter of time until their relegation to the Championship is confirmed. That may sound a bit premature, but all you need to do is take one glance at the Premier League table. They’re struggling to really find their footing as they did last season, and now, all they can hope for is one major shock result out of nowhere to get them back on track. If they can manage that, perhaps the tide will start the turn.
Team News
Aaron Mooy could start in this one if he’s deemed to be fit enough. Karlan Grant is also being tipped to make his debut for the visitors following his move from Charlton.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge.
- Chelsea have won three and lost three of their last six games.
- Huddersfield have drawn one and lost five of their last six games.
- Chelsea have scored seven goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
- Huddersfield have scored one goal and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
Chelsea aren’t exactly on the best run of form right now, but let’s face it, that doesn’t really matter all too much when it comes to Huddersfield. The Terriers already have one foot in the grave of relegation, and it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. The Blues need a big comeback performance and we think they’re going to run through Huddersfield without too many problems. If they don’t, then serious questions will need to be asked of Maurizio Sarri and the direction of the club.
