In what is a heavyweight showdown on Tuesday night, Chelsea will welcome Italian giants Juventus to Stamford Bridge for what could be a star-studded affair in west London.

Chelsea

Starting with the hosts, while Chelsea might have been disappointed to have entered November’s international break with a 1-1 draw at home against Burnley, the Blues came bouncing back over the weekend. Laying down what was a real marker on Saturday lunchtime, Thomas Tuchel’s men stormed their way to a 3-0 romp away at Leicester and the mood in their camp appears to be at a red-hot high. Tipped as a leading pick in the Premier League title chase this season, the defending European champions are unbeaten in each of their last nine matchups across all formats, recording eight wins. Only continuing to shine since they brought in the former PSG boss back in January, Chelsea will now have their sights set on clinching top spot in Group H. With their nine-match unbeaten run steaming all the way back to September’s 1-0 loss in Turin, there is no doubt that Tuesday’s hosts will be looking to right that wrong in west London.

Team News

Once again missing Chelsea’s 3-0 win at Leicester on Saturday, Romelu Lukaku does still remain a doubt at Stamford Bridge in midweek.

Likewise, while Mateo Kovacic is still expected to miss out on Tuesday night, Marcos Alonso could make his return from a recent ankle injury.

Juventus

As for the visitors, while Juventus might have shown some worrying issues when opening the 2021/22 campaign, the Italian giants have managed to find a welcomed boost on either side of the international break. Along with heading into November’s fortnight break with a 1-0 win away at Fiorentina, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri has now seen his side win each of their last three contests on the bounce. Landing that 1-0 victory when they welcomed Chelsea to Turn in back in September, Juve’s returning boss will also be boosted by a hugely impressive display over the weekend. Picking up some perfect momentum on their travels, the Old Lady landed an eye-catching 2-0 win away at Lazio and they could be smelling the chance to cause an upset in west London. Only continuing on what has been a real Champions League romp since opening the new campaign, it should also be noted that Tuesday’s guests have won each of their four Group H outings.

Team News

While attacking talisman Paulo Pybala might still be dealing with a knock, Juventus remain confident that the 28-year-old could play some part at Stamford Bridge.

However, along with defensive star Giorgio Chiellini, Wales international Aaron Ramsey is also expected to be on the sidelines in midweek.

Key Factors to Consider

    • When the two sides faced off in Turin back in September, Juventus picked up a 1-0 win.
    • However, since that defeat, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last nine matchups across all formats, recording eight wins.
    • Juventus have won all four of their Champions League matchups so far this season.
    • Chelsea have lost just a single contest at Stamford Bridge since May 12th.
    • The Blues have also recorded six clean sheets in their last eight matchups across all formats.

    Conclusion

While Chelsea might have been hit with that 1-0 defeat out in Turin back in September, there is no doubt that the Blues will be desperate to right that wrong on Tuesday night. Picking up some perfect momentum with a thumping 3-0 win against Leicester over the weekend, Thomas Tuchel’s men now have their sights set on finding a route to the top of Group H. Storming their way to the top of the Premier League standings, the defending European champions have a real chance to lay down a marker at Stamford Bridge. While Juventus might be enjoying their own Champions League purple patch, they do face a stern step up in class here. Given their continued success in west London, we’re backing a home victory in midweek.
