Just a few days ago we saw Chelsea and Leicester City meet in the FA Cup final and now, we’re going to get a pretty intriguing rematch in the Premier League. However, as opposed to most games at this stage of the season, this one has some serious stakes attached to it as both clubs push for a place in the top four. Right now Leicester have a two-point advantage, but that could all change in the blink of an eye on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel always knew this was going to be a really hectic spell with the Blues battling in the FA Cup final, Champions League final and to finish in the top four of the Premier League. The FA Cup final didn’t exactly go to plan as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester but with the UCL final on the horizon, Tuchel needs to really think about how he’s going to rotate his squad as this stacked end to the season continues.

Team News

Kovacic is the only major fitness doubt for the hosts at Stamford Bridge with the expectation being for Tuchel to make significant changes from the final over the weekend.

Leicester

The fear was always going to be that Leicester City would slip out of contention in the Champions League race and generally crumble to end the season. Alas, after winning the FA Cup for the first time in their history, they’ll have real confidence heading into the final two games of the Premier League campaign. Brendan Rodgers knows this has already been a successful year, but getting them over that final finish line would be huge.

Team News

Evans is still a bit of a fitness doubt and is unlikely to play in either of Leicester’s remaining two games. Outside of that, Barnes and Justin have been officially ruled out through injury.

Factors to Consider

  • In last weekend’s FA Cup final, Leicester beat Chelsea 1-0 to win the trophy for the first time.
  • Chelsea have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
  • Leicester have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
  • Chelsea have scored seven goals and conceded four in their last six games.
  • Leicester have scored 11 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.

Conclusion

Leicester fans may well still have an FA Cup hangover by the time this game rolls around whereas Chelsea fans need to reshift their focus and look towards sealing a place in the top four of this season’s Premier League. We think they’ll come out firing and while the Foxes will still have their eyes firmly locked on Champions League football, we just think they’ll fall short here in a 3-1 defeat that gives the Blues a real boost. In short, we think there’s going to be a lot of entertaining play featured here, but we do favour Chelsea.

Prediction: Chelsea win
