We’re now less than two weeks away from the end of the current Premier League campaign, and there’s still a whole lot left to play for. While Norwich City have already had their relegation back down to the Championship confirmed, Chelsea are right up there in the race for a top four finish as they continue to pursue Champions League football. On Tuesday evening, these two clubs will meet at Stamford Bridge in what many are hoping will be a fun encounter.
Chelsea
The inconsistency of Chelsea Football Club since the restart has ensured that they are going to have a real battle on their hands in the top four race – especially now that Manchester City’s European ban has been officially overturned. If you take one look at their plans for the summer it’s clear to see that qualifying for the UCL is going to be a real priority, and if they’re going to get the job done, they simply have to be beating bottom of the table Norwich.
Team News
Kante is on the verge of returning to full fitness, but he isn’t expected to start this game and may only come off of the bench. The two big absences are Tomori and Gilmour who are both injured, with Lampard being tipped to make a few other changes after the Sheffield United defeat.
Norwich
Daniel Farke will already be planning for next season as Norwich fans come to terms with their fifth Premier League relegation – which is now a record since the league’s rebranding back in 1992. They haven’t been able to put together the kind of consistent performances that are needed to stay in the top flight, but the general hope is that they’ll be able to take some real lessons away – both positive and negative – heading into next season.
Team News
Cantwell looks set to return to the starting XI, whereas Isah and McLean are both also expected to play a role. There are still a few injury problems for the club to deal with, though, with Zimmermann, Leitner, Byram and Hanley all missing out as preparations begin for life back in the second tier.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in August, Chelsea beat Norwich 3-2.
- Chelsea have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Norwich have lost their last six games in all competitions.
- Chelsea have scored 11 goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
Conclusion
Norwich are going to throw everything they’ve got at the Blues, or at least they should, because what else do they have to lose? We all know they’re capable of putting on a real show when they’re at the races, but at the same time, Chelsea are desperate to secure that top four spot – and they’ve got more than enough quality in their ranks to get over the finish line. Therefore, we’re backing them to edge out the Canaries with a somewhat unremarkable 2-0 win.
