For the final time in November, the Premier League is back this weekend for a whole host of fixtures that will set us on the road to a lively winter period. There are plenty of games to work our way through and with the midweek slots starting next week, there’s no telling what’s going to happen between now and the new year. Today, we’re going to take a look at a clash between two of the most underrated sides in the top flight – Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
Crystal Palace
The Roy Hodgson way simply wasn’t working but the Patrick Vieira way has been pretty entertaining thus far. The Eagles have only lost two league games all season under his guidance and while there are plenty of draws in there, the fact remains that they’re a really tough team to beat. If they can add some depth in January, there’s no reason why they can’t legitimately make a push for a place in Europe next season.
Team News
Eze is available for this one but may be eased back into the squad as a result of his recent injury. McArthur and Ferguson are both on the shelf with Benteke being tipped to start again after his great run of form recently.
Aston Villa
A new managerial appointment can breathe new life into just about any club and that’s precisely what’s happened here for Aston Villa. Things just weren’t working out with Dean Smith towards the end of his stint in the second city and now that Steven Gerrard has come through the door, there are plenty of new ideas on the table. Based on his debut, the club can expect a rollercoaster ride for as long as he’s in charge.
Team News
Traore is out through injury with Trezeguet returning to training recently – although he isn’t expected to be fully fit just yet. Elsewhere, Luiz is doubtful with Bailey now being back to full fitness himself.
Factors to Consider
- Crystal Palace are 10th in the Premier League whereas Aston Villa are 15th.
- Crystal Palace have won two and drawn four of their last six games.
- Aston Villa have won one and lost five of their last six games.
- Crystal Palace have scored 12 goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
- Aston Villa have scored seven goals and conceded 13 in their last six games.
Conclusion
This has turned out to be a clash between two sides who are starting to find their rhythm in the Premier League which is nothing if not exciting. Palace are incredibly direct and to the point with Villa taking their time, especially in their last win over Brighton. We’re expecting a lively encounter full of goals, ending in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
