The Premier League is back once again this weekend with a whole host of fixtures spread across English football’s top flight. There’s still so much to be decided throughout the course of this campaign with there being no real clarity at either end of the table, and two sides who will be happy about that are Crystal Palace and Liverpool – with both seeming to be without any real purpose right now.
Crystal Palace
As much as fans have been enjoying the new style of play under Patrick Vieira, nobody likes midtable mediocrity. It’s a difficult thing for supporters to deal with as they want to keep pushing further up the table, but the competitive nature of the Premier League means they’ll be more concerned about looking over their shoulder. Either way, though, this is a Crystal Palace team to be proud of.
Team News
Ward, Zagha and Ferguson are out injured with Hughes set to be assessed before kick-off.
Liverpool
There’s no need to sugarcoat it – this season has been a bad one for Liverpool Football Club. They are out of the League Cup, out of the FA Cup, almost out of the Champions League, and they’re nowhere near the top four in the Premier League. In any other instance the manager’s job may be at risk but for the time being, Jurgen Klopp is being given the chance to try and turn this team around (again).
Team News
Thiago and Diaz are still out of action although Konate and Arthur could make it back in time to feature here.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in August, Palace and Liverpool drew 1-1.
- Palace have drawn four and lost two of their last six games.
- Liverpool have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Palace have scored four goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Liverpool have scored seven goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
Conclusion
We do think this is going to be a tough outing for Liverpool, as tends to be the case when they make their way to Selhurst Park. We’re backing Palace to come out firing but as the game goes on, we think they’ll begin to tire. The Reds have been known to fade down the stretch this season but they looked really strong against Everton, and with that in mind, we’re backing a 2-1 win for the visitors.
