After 37 long and gruelling games, we’ve finally come to the end of the La Liga season. There’s just one set of fixtures left to be played and while the attention for many has already shifted to the Euros next month, there’s still an awful lot of uncertainty in the air regarding the final day and where everyone is going to end up. One of the games left to be played, Eibar vs Barcelona, promises to be a fascinating David vs Goliath clash as the curtain comes down on another La Liga campaign.
Eibar
For years now it’s been nothing short of miraculous that Eibar have been able to maintain their status in the top flight of Spanish football, but unfortunately, their remarkable journey has now come to an end. Many believe they’ve got a great chance of coming straight back up but instead of looking towards the future, it’d be great to see them go out in style by really giving Barca all they can handle on the final day.
Team News
Enrich is set to return to the starting XI with Diop also being tipped for an appearance in the middle of the park. Outside of that, Eibar have no injury or suspension concerns to worry about prior to hosting Barca.
Barcelona
Barcelona’s season under Ronald Koeman hasn’t quite gone to plan and while nobody really knows what the future is going to hold for him or the club, that won’t stop the masses talking about it. They’ll have to sit back and watch as the two Madrid clubs battle it out for the right to win the title and while they may have had a few bright moments this season, it’ll certainly give them a lot to think about heading into the summer.
Team News
Barcelona are limping over the finish line in more ways than one with a parade of absences confirmed for this game. Lenglet is out through suspension whereas the following players will all miss out due to injury: Fati, Coutinho, Roberto and ter Stegen.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting earlier this season, Barcelona and Eibar drew 1-1.
- Eibar have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Barcelona have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- Eibar have scored seven goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
- Barcelona have scored 10 goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Barcelona have some serious questions to answer during the summer transfer window but in terms of this final game, we don’t think they’re going to have many issues securing third place. We don’t think they’re going to blow Eibar out of the water by any stretch of the imagination, but we do expect them to dictate the pace of the game before edging out a 1-0 win. Will that be enough to lift some of the pressure off of the manager? Right now, it’s hard to say.
