The Premier League is back once again this weekend as continue on through the always-crazy month of December. There are so many teams up and down the top flight who are in desperate need of some points on the board now that we’re in the midst of the busy winter schedule, mainly because momentum can be such a vital piece of the puzzle during this time of the year. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at what could and should be a great game between two of the PL’s finest: Everton and Chelsea.
Everton
After enjoying such a positive start to the campaign it’s somewhat bizarre to see just how far Everton have fallen over the course of the last few weeks. They’ve been hit by a few defensive absences but that alone isn’t enough to justify the quality of the performances they’ve been putting in. There just seems to be a distinct lack of confidence within their ranks, and Ancelotti needs to do everything in his power to rediscover it – and fast.
Team News
Delph is expected to miss out after coming off against Burnley through injury, with the following being out of action for the visit of Chelsea: Gbamin, Digne and Coleman.
Chelsea
Frank Lampard will be on cloud nine right now with Chelsea firing on all cylinders in every available competition. They’re starting to prove why there was so much interest in them before the season got underway, and as we approach the new year, they are quite clearly contenders in the title race. Their fans may not want to jinx that just yet but it’s true, and a confident win here would help to solidify those claims.
Team News
Giroud is being tipped to feature from the word go after his strong run of form lately which would see Abraham drop to the bench. Elsewhere, Havertz is still fighting to get back to full fitness after his problems with COVID-19, whereas Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi are the only two confirmed injury absences.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in March, Chelsea beat Everton 4-0.
- Everton have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Chelsea have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
- Everton have scored six goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
- Chelsea have scored 12 goals and conceded three in their last six games.
Conclusion
In what could be dubbed the Carlo Ancelotti derby, we think Chelsea are going to have a pretty good day at the office when they make the trip up to Goodison Park. The Toffees are really struggling to find an identity for themselves right now and while they may have some really exciting attacking options, the same is true for the Blues and then some. In our view there is only one way this goes, which is why we’re predicting a 3-0 win for Lampard’s men.
