The international break has been and gone and in its place, we have the return of Premier League football. We’re closing in on the final eight-game stretch of the season and it’s time to start whittling down the contenders in a range of different mini-contests up and down the table. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a pretty tense clash between Everton and Manchester United.
Everton
After 71 years without being relegated from the top flight, it’s starting to look like Everton Football Club could be in a spot of bother. It’s no secret that the Frank Lampard experiment isn’t working out particularly well and the worst part is that it shows no signs of changing. Moving forward across the next couple of weeks, the Toffees will need to dig incredibly deep just to stay afloat.
Team News
Mina, Davies, Townsend, Patterson and van de Beek are all injured whereas Gomes is currently listed as being a fitness concern.
Manchester United
Manchester United’s top four ambitions are clear but when you take a look at their form, it suddenly becomes clear that it’ll take a monumental effort for them to claw their way into the Champions League. Ralf Rangnick isn’t going to be in charge by the end of the campaign and while looking ahead to the future is important, they also can’t afford to let themselves get complacent.
Team News
Ronaldo is expected to return after missing the Leicester game through illness with the following players being ruled out: Varane, Shaw, Cavani and McTominay.
Factors to Consider
- Everton are 17th in the Premier League whereas Man United are 7th.
- Everton have won one and lost five of their last six games.
- Man United have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games.
- Everton have scored four goals and conceded 15 in their last six games.
- Man United have scored six goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
Conclusion
Everton are going to fight tooth and nail in their remaining fixtures but even with a loud Goodison Park crowd behind them, we don’t think they’ll have enough to come away with a positive result here. United are inconsistent at the best of times but this has “early goal” written all over it with the visitors ultimately clinging on to claim an important three points.
