The international break has officially been and gone, and in its place we have the return of the Premier League. England’s top flight has always been a source of great entertainment, but that seems to have been emphasised throughout the first few months of the season. From the top of the table to the very bottom there are so many storylines to unravel, and today, we’re going to take a look at one of them as Everton prepare to host Norwich City at Goodison Park in a battle of the relegation candidates.
Everton
Everton have always been a pretty popular club amongst neutral supporters, but it doesn’t matter how popular you are unless you’re able to back it up with performances on the pitch. Everton are one of the many sides that have struggled to really get their season started since it all kicked off in August, with a lot of the complaints being directed towards the manager. They’ve got the quality within their squad, but getting them all to gel together has been a serious issue as of late.
Team News
Delph is a doubt after also missing out on the international break, with Sidibe being tipped to keep Coleman out of the starting XI once again. Gbamin, Bernard and Gomes are all still out of action.
Norwich
Norwich’s big win over champions Manchester City quite literally feels like it happened five years ago at this stage. They have been on a torrid run of form in recent weeks, and their injury concerns certainly haven’t helped matters either. While they may only be four points off of safety many are still wondering where the points are going to come from, because let’s face it, Teemu Pukki can’t pop up and save the day every single time.
Team News
Zimmermann and Hanley are both ahead of schedule in their recovery efforts but Lewis, McLean and Drmic are all still doubts with Klose already being ruled out.
Factors to Consider
- Everton are currently 15th in the Premier League table, whereas Norwich are down in 20th.
- Everton have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Norwich have drawn one and lost five of their last six games.
- Everton have scored nine goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- Norwich have scored two goals and conceded 14 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Everton have struggled so far this season but Norwich really do appear to be in a precarious position at this moment in time. The Toffees need to get off to a good start at Goodison Park or this one is going to turn into a real slog, and while the Canaries will be up for it either way, we can’t imagine it’s going to make all too much of a difference in the long run. Everton will edge out the three points, but it won’t exactly do a whole lot to settle the nerves on the blue half of Merseyside.
