The Premier League returns once again this weekend for the final set of fixtures prior to the last international break of 2021. Every club from top to bottom will have different motives this week, whether it be wanting to carry momentum into the break or simply wanting to survive before regrouping and analysing how the season is going. On Sunday, two clubs will attempt to get back on track as Everton host Tottenham Hotspur.
Everton
There are plenty of things Everton fans can be upset about and the state of their injury list is one of them. Unfortunately, you can’t do anything but play with what you’ve got – and they just aren’t doing well enough. Rafa Benitez has been a limited man in terms of his tactics for a while and it’s coming back to bite the blue half of Merseyside. Will he make it to the end of the season? At this rate, he won’t even make it beyond January.
Team News
Digne should return to action in this one with Sigurdsson, Gomes, Calvert-Lewin, Doucoure and Mina all confirmed absences.
Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur fans knew Nuno Espirito Santo wasn’t the right man to guide them forward. Sure, many probably didn’t think it would be over so quickly, but that’s the nature of football. Antonio Conte is the man who has been tasked with being the shining light for this troubled club and we’re sure he’s going to get them slightly closer to where he needs to be. Still, there’s a lack of confidence in this squad and that needs to be rectified first.
Team News
Gil and Sessegnon are both out with a strong starting XI expected from the new Spurs boss.
Factors to Consider
- Everton are 10th in the Premier League whereas Tottenham are 9th.
- Everton have won one, drawn two and lost three of their last six games.
- Tottenham have won three and lost three of their last six games.
- Everton have scored eight goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored seven goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
Conclusion
It’s the dawning of a new era in one camp and it’s fairly turbulent in the other – what better time for Harry Kane to finally stand up and be counted in the Premier League? We expect Everton to start hesitantly and be made to pay for that with Spurs taking an early lead. They’ll go after a second, especially with Conte wanting to make a statement, but they’ll settle for a strong 1-0 win.
