While the domestic season may be over across Europe, there’s still a lot of football left to be played in the United States as this year’s Major League Soccer campaign rolls on. A parade of clubs across both conferences are hoping that they can make it to the post-season and today, we’re going to take a look at a clash between two western clubs in similar spots: FA Dallas and LA Galaxy.

FC Dallas

They won the Supporters’ Shield in 2016 and were runners-up for the MLS Cup in 2010, but in reality, Dallas hasn’t been seen as serious contenders throughout most of its entire history – dating all the way back to 1995. So far this season they can be described as consistent but with questionable home form and a lack of any creative direction, there are definitely still some question marks above their head.

LA Galaxy

With five MLS Cups and four Supporters’ Shields to their name, LA Galaxy is rightfully known as one of the most successful teams in the history of American soccer. However, with their last success coming back in 2014, it’s fair to say they’ve been a bit stagnant. There doesn’t appear to be a major direction coming from the club as of this writing and because of that, playoff fillers feels like a realistic target.

• Dallas have won one, drawn three and lost two of their last six games.
• Los Angeles have won two and lost four of their last six games.
• Dallas have scored six goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
• Los Angeles have scored 12 goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.

Conclusion

Neither side is blowing anyone away right now but there’s something about the tactical awareness of Galaxy when they really start to focus that leads us to believe they could pull out a nervy, gritty 1-0 win here. Dallas has struggled at home for a while, the visitors have some fun attacking options, and even though one early goal would likely open the floodgates, we don’t think the hosts have it in them.
