Two sides who really find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Western Conference table, Dallas will welcome Vancouver to the Toyota Stadium in the early hours of Sunday.

FC Dallas

Starting with the hosts, last seen heading into the international break with a thumping display on the road, there is no doubt that Dallas will be looking to carry on from where they left off a fortnight ago. Eventually signing off May with an eye-catching 3-1 win away at Orlando, Nico Estévez’s men have continued to impress many across the MLS this season. Clearly making a string of improvements since opening the 2022 campaign, the Frisco-based outfit currently find themselves sat as high as second in the Western Conference. Appearing to have bounced back from their back-to-back 2-1 losses against Minnesota and Vancouver last month, the Burn have also gained a reputation for their continued success on home soil. Aside from that close-fought defeat against Minnesota on May 22nd, Estévez’s side have won each of their other six showdowns at the Toyota Stadium. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, Sunday’s hosts have lost just a single contest in front of their own supporters since way back in October.

Team News

With no fresh injury concerns or suspensions to worry about, the Burn have been handed a clean bill of health ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

Now racking up six goals in just his last five appearances, USA international Paul Arriola will spearhead Dallas’ charge here.

Vancouver Whitecaps

As for the visitors, while Vancouver might have marked their own return from the international break with an impressive 2-1 win at home against Real Salt Lake, Vanni Sartini’s men came crashing back down to earth a few days ago. Eventually getting hit with a dreadful 4-0 drumming at the hands of Seattle, the Canadian outfit also saw their three-match winning run come to an abrupt end. Still battling it out at the foot of the Western Conference, there is no doubt that fans around BC Place will be calling on their side to prove that Tuesday’s hammering on the road was just a minor blip. However, while Vancouver might be tipped as an underdog with the bookmakers here, they should be boosted by an eye-catching record against Sunday’s opponents. Along with claiming that 2-1 victory when the faced off against Dallas last month, the Whitecaps are unbeaten in their last four meetings against the Burn, a run that has seen them muster three victories.

Team News

Still dealing with a facial injury, Vancouver are once again expected to be without Russell Teibert this weekend.

Likewise, goalkeeper Thomas Hasal will certainly miss out here as the 22-year-old deals with a hand issue.

Key Factors to Consider

    • When the two sides faced off at BC Place last month, Vancouver picked up a 2-1 victory on home soil.
    • Likewise, the Whitecaps are unbeaten in each of their last four meetings against Sunday’s opponents, recording three victories.
    • Dallas have won six of their last seven domestic home fixtures, a run that stems back to February 26th.
    • Likewise, Sunday’s hosts have seen each of their last five matchups finish with both teams finding the net.
    • Six of the last seven meetings between Dallas and Vancouver have also finished in an identical outcome.

    Conclusion

Although Vancouver might have been hit with that dreadful 4-0 drumming at the hands of Seattle in midweek, the Whitecaps could prove to be a tough test here. Although Dallas might have managed to head into the international break with a thumping 3-1 victory away at Orlando, it should be noted that they do hold a downbeat record against Sunday’s opponents. Including a 2-1 loss when the two sides faced off at BC Place last month, the Burn have failed to win any of their last four meetings against their Western Conference rivals. However, it is worth highlighting that Sunday’s opponents do have a habit of producing fireworks. With six of their last seven meetings finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome here.

    Verdict: Both teams to score
