In the modern era every single Premier League game is an exciting one, contrary to what some fans may lead you to believe. When it comes to this game, in particular, there’s a lot of intrigue surrounding these two sides after poor respective starts to their league campaigns. Neither team will want to kick off the season with no win from their first three games, as you’d expect, and as such we can likely expect a frantic pace when they square off this weekend.

Fulham

The Cottagers spent an obscene amount of money for a newly promoted club in the summer transfer window, causing many neutral fans and pundits alike to sit up and take notice. Of course, with a new squad like theirs you’re always going to have growing pains, and that seems to be the case as they continue to try and gel as a team. They’ve got potential and they do feel like a team worthy of playing at this level, but they can’t afford to go too many games whereby we’re saying that they were unlucky.

Team News

Andre Schurrle will attempt to prove his worth if he can get into the starting XI ahead of Kamara, with Sessegnon’s work rate still being viewed as the most likely form of attacking success for the Cottagers.

Burnley

The Europa League journey was always going to impact Burnley’s early start to the season, and despite Sean Dyche’s best efforts, it seems as if it’s going to end in disappointment after they lost to Olympiakos last night in their play-off first leg. Still, they can’t spend too much time dwelling on it, because they need to shift their focus back towards the Premier League in time for this game against Fulham. It’s not going to be easy, but they should have enough strength in depth to be competitive.

Team News

We can probably expect a handful of changes from Dyche courtesy of their Europa League trip, with Tarkowski and Wood likely being viewed as the club’s two key stars.

Factors to Consider

  • The game will be played at Craven Cottage.
  • Burnley lead 45-30 in the overall head to head standings.
  • In their last game back in March 2016, Burnley beat Fulham 3-2.
  • Fulham have zero points from their first two games (1-3 vs Tottenham, 0-2 vs Crystal Palace).
  • Burnley have one point from their first two games (1-3 vs Watford, 0-0 vs Southampton).

Conclusion

This is going to be a tough game for Burnley to deal with, especially given that they’ve had to deal with 90 minutes in European competition this week. Fulham haven’t been blown out of the water by any stretch of the imagination in their opening two fixtures, and with the rowdy Craven Cottage crowd behind them, we can picture the home side sneaking a deserved 1-0 win from this one. The visitors will have tired legs all throughout the squad, and Fulham can be an organised unit when they want to be.

Prediction: Fulham win

Best Odds: 1/1
