Despite the return of the FA Cup this weekend, we’re still going to have some Premier League action to enjoy. One game on the bill that we’re particularly looking forward to is Fulham vs Liverpool, in what will be a ‘David vs Goliath’ type of affair (or the Battle of the former Roy Hodgson teams). The Cottagers have a lot left to fight for contrary to some who may think it’s all over for them, and in many ways, the same thing can be said for Liverpool at this late stage of the campaign.
Fulham
The sacking of Claudio Ranieri served as the final nail in the coffin for many Fulham fans, who seem to believe that they’re destined for the drop no matter what they do. Based on recent evidence it’s kind of hard to deny that claim, although we’ve seen some seriously incredible escapes in the past. They’ve got a squad full of really talented players that just don’t seem to be able to gel, but if they can put together a run during the last eight games of the season, then anything is possible.
Team News
Mawson and Bettinelli are expected to miss out through injury, with Mitrovic once again being tipped to lead the line for the strugglers.
Liverpool
Despite losing their stranglehold on the Premier League title race, Liverpool aren’t going to give up on chasing Manchester City without a fight. They’re also still involved in the Champions League and following their recent win over Bayern Munich, some fans are questioning whether or not there are going to be some tired legs out there for the Reds at the weekend. We can probably expect some kind of rotation, but for the most part, Klopp will want to field a pretty strong team.
Team News
Henderson picked up a knock during the week and will probably be rested for this one, with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gomez both still out injured. Salah, Firmino and in-form Mane will almost certainly start.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Fulham’s Craven Cottage.
- Fulham have lost their last six games.
- Liverpool have won three and drawn three of their last six games.
- Fulham have scored three goals and conceded 15 in their last six games.
- Liverpool have scored 12 goals and conceded three in their last six games.
Conclusion
As much as some fans would like to believe there’s an upset on the cards here somewhere, we just can’t see it. Fulham are no match for Liverpool in any department, and it’s just a case of whether or not the Reds can handle the pressure of the title race. We think the answer is yes, but we also believe the Cottagers don’t want to give up without a fight. We’re going to go with a narrow 2-1 win for Liverpool, which should remind Jurgen Klopp that his side needs to step up their game if they’re serious about dethroning Manchester City.
