We’ve got another full set of Premier League fixtures to enjoy this weekend, as teams up and down the division attempt to keep their second half of the season going strong. With just four months remaining in the campaign every single point is pressure, and everyone knows that. The game we’ll be looking at today is Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur and while that may come across as a bit of a David vs Goliath encounter, there are enough reasons to believe that it’ll be more competitive than some fans are anticipating.
Fulham
Now that the dust has settled on Claudio Ranieri’s move to Fulham, it feels like he’s starting to realise just how mammoth his task is going to be. The Cottagers have a series of good individuals in their ranks, but putting that all together has been the issue ever since the start of the season. So many of the other teams in the division have been able to gel, and that’s not always an easy thing to do. Fulham can beat many teams in this league on their best day, but that’s more of a rarity than their fans would care to admit.
Team News
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is a doubt for the home side, with Alfie Mawson being ruled out with a knee issue.
Tottenham
Tottenham have their finger in a lot of pies this season, to the point where they’re still in with a chance of winning four different competitions. Pochettino has put the rumours regarding his own future to one side, and instead, he’s put the interests of his team ahead of his own. Spurs still have a tendency to slip up in games they should absolutely be winning, but such is the nature of their busy schedule. They’ll view this as an incredibly winnable game, and rightly so.
Team News
Fernando Llorente will lead the charge with Son away on international duty and Kane out injured. Moussa Sissoko probably won’t be fit in time for this one, with Wanyama definitely being ruled out.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Fulham’s Craven Cottage.
- Fulham have won one, drawn two and lost three of their last six games.
- Tottenham have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Tottenham lead 50-18 in the overall head to head standings with 29 draws.
- In their last meeting back in August, Tottenham won 3-1.
Conclusion
Fulham are plucky and they’ll stay in a game for as long as they possibly can, but that isn’t going to be enough here. They may score a consolation goal late in the day but this is Tottenham’s game to lose, and we don’t think they’re going to let their faithful fans down. They’ve still got work to do in order to secure a spot in the top four this season and while they may have other competitions to worry about too, Mauricio Pochettino isn’t going to allow his side to lose focus of how important the Premier League is.
