Girona and Real Madrid will lock horns with each other in La Liga this coming weekend. The match between Michel’s side and Carlo Ancelotti’s team will be held at Estadi Montilivi and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Saturday.

Girona

Girona are a modest club in Spain, but they have done well recently. Blanquivermells were the surprise package last season as they ended up as high as third in the La Liga table and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Michel’s side are not doing as well this time around, but they are still in the running for a UEFA Champions League spot in the La Liga table. Girona have picked up 22 points from 15 matches and are eighth in the standings. They are only four points behind Athletic Bilbao, who are currently fourth.

Girona will take on UD Logrones away from home in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening before facing Real Madrid at Estadi Montilivi in La Liga this coming weekend. They played out a 2-2 draw with Villarreal away from home in La Liga this past weekend which came after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of SK Sturm Graz away from home in the UEFA Champions League.

Team News:

Girona are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Real Madrid this coming weekend. Paulo Gazzaniga will be in goal for the home team. Arnau Martinez, David Lopez, Ladislav Krejci and Miguel Gutierrez will be the four defenders. Ivan Martin and Oriol Romeu will be the two holding midfielders. Bryan Gil, Donny van de Beek and Arnaut Danjuma will be deployed in attacking midfield. Bojan Miovski will lead the line for Girona.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid are arguably the biggest club in the world and won La Liga and the UEFA Champions League last season. Under manager Carlo Ancelotti, Los Blancos will be aiming to repeat those heroics again in this campaign.

Madrid are doing well in La Liga at the moment. They have picked up 33 points from 14 matches and are only a point behind leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona, who have played 15 games. In the UEFA  Champions League, though, Madrid are in dire form. They have bagged just six points from five games and are as low as 24th in the League Stage table.

Los Blancos will take on Athletic Bilbao away from home in La Liga on Wednesday evening before facing Girona in the league this coming Saturday. Madrid beat Getafe 2-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga this past weekend which came after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool away from home at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League League Stage game. Ancelotti is confident about Madrid catching up to Barcelona and said this past weekend: “Madrid, despite the difficulties, which are many, the injuries, are fighting. What gives me confidence is that we have regained a good attitude, spirit, concentration… Little by little, we will solve the problems. In the meantime, we are there fighting.”

Team News:

Real Madrid are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation against Girona.  Thibaut Courtois will be in goal for Los Blancos. Lucas Vazquez, Raul Asencio, Antonio Rudiger and Fran Garcia will be the four defenders. Federico Valverde, Dani Ceballos and Jude Bellingham will be the three midfielders. Brahim Díaz, Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappe are likely to be the three forwards.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Girona have won 3 of their last 5 La Liga matches.
  • Girona have scored 22 goals and conceded 20 goals in 15 La Liga matches.
  • Real Madrid have lost 1 game in La Liga so far this season.
  • Real Madrid have conceded 11 goals in 14 La Liga games this campaign.
  • Vinicius Junior has scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists in 13 La Liga games for Real Madrid so far this season.

Conclusion

Girona are doing relatively well at the moment and will also have a home advantage against Real Madrid. Los Blancos, though, have one of the best squads in the world and are doing extremely well in La Liga right now. It is very likely that Carlo Ancelotti’s side will register a comfortable win at Estadi Montilivi.
