Gremio and Vasco da Gama will lock horns with each other in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A this weekend. The match between Imortal Tricolor and Gigante da Colina will be held at Arena do Grêmio and is scheduled to kick off at 11 pm UK time on Sunday.

Gremio

Gremio are one of the biggest clubs in Brazil and have been hugely successful. Founded in 1903, Tricolor dos Pampas have won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title twice, the Campeonato Gaúcho on 43 occasions, the Intercontinental Cup once and the Copa Libertadores twice.

Imortal Tricolor did well last season. Gremio finished as high as second in the Brazilian Serie A table and won the Gauchão, but things are dire for Renato Portaluppi’s side at the moment. Gremio are as low as 18th in the league table at the moment with 14 points from 16 games, three points ahead of bottom side Atlético-GO, who have played 18 games.

Gremio will take on Corinthians away from home in the Brazilian Serie A on Friday before facing Vasco da Gama in front of their fans in the league next weekend. Renato Portaluppi’s side beat Vitoria 2-0 at Arena do Grêmio in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A which came after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sao Paulo on the road in the league.

Team News:

Gremio are likely to line up in a 4-4-2 formation. Agustín Marchesín will be in goal for the home team and will have João Pedro, Rodrigo Ely, Wálter Kannemann and Reinaldo in front of him in defence. Cristian Pavón, Mathías Villasanti, Felipe Carballo Ares and Yeferson Soteldo will be the four midfielders. Edenilson and Nathan will lead the line for Gremio.

Vasco da Gama

Vasco da Gama are one of the biggest and most well-known clubs in Brazil. Gigante da Colina have won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A on four occasions, the Copa do Brasil once, and the Copa Libertadores on one occasion among other major trophies.

O Legítimo Clube do Povo have not been doing so well lately. Vasco finished as low as 15th in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A table last season, but they did end up third in the 2023 Campeonato Carioca campaign. Vasco are having a relatively mediocre season at the moment. They have picked up 23 points from 18 matches and are 11th in the league table.

Vasco da Gama will head into the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A match against Gremio away from home at Arena do Grêmio next weekend on the back of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Atlético-MG on the road in the league. It came after a 1-0 victory over Atlético-GO away from home in the league which followed a 2-0 win against Corinthians in front of their own fans in the Brazilian Serie A.

Team News:

Vasco da Gama are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Léo Jardim will be in goal for the visiting team and will have Paulo Henrique, Maicon, Leo and Lucas Piton in front of him in defence. Hugo Moura and Matheus Carvalho Dos Santos will be the two holding midfielders. Adson, Bruno Conceicão and David will be the three playmakers. Pablo Vegetti will lead the line for Vasco.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Gremio have scored 12 goals in 16 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A matches this season.
  • Gremio have conceded 20 goals in 16 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A matches this season.
  • Gremio have won 4 out of their 16 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A matches this season.
  • Vasco da Gama have scored 20 goals in 18 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A games this season.
  • Vasco da Gama have conceded 28 goals in 18 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A games this season.

Conclusion

Gremio are struggling in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. While Vasco da Gama are not exceptionally well, they are in better form and should be able to eke out a narrow in.

Prediction: Vasco da Gama to win 2-1

Best Odds: 52/5
