While domestic football is largely still out of action across Europe, the start of July means we’re heading for the qualifiers of several different competitions – including the Europa Conference League. The competition is still in its infancy but does offer up a chance for teams to have a really solid run that they otherwise wouldn’t have and today, we’re taking a look at the first leg clash between HB Torshavn and Newtown.

HB Torshavn

As part of the Faroe Islands, HB Torshavn represent a nation that constantly flies under the radar within the context of European football, and understandably so. They’re one of the oldest clubs across the country having been founded in 1904 and they finished their own campaign in 2nd, with some wondering whether they’re going to be a bit rusty considering they’ve been mostly out of action since May.

Newtown

Newtown was able to secure a third place finish in the Welsh Premier League last season and even though it’s not the most prestigious division across the continent, it still makes for a fun watch – even if they were wildly inconsistent. They should probably be seen as the favourites here but it all depends on just how seriously they’re going to take a competition that hasn’t got the best reputation just yet.

Conclusion

This is the kind of fixture that we think is still going to be a little bit nervy with both sides not exactly being in with a wonderful chance of going too far. It’ll be gritty, sloppy and have just the right amount of carnage to warrant being a steady watch. In the end, we believe it’ll be a 1-1 draw that should give Newtown more confidence out of the two heading into the second leg.
