The business end of the Premier League season is almost upon us, as teams begin to contemplate what they’re going to strive for between now and May. The two sides that we’re focusing on today, Huddersfield Town and Arsenal, certainly have very different ambitions. The Terriers have already been relegated in the eyes of many fans and pundits, whereas Unai Emery’s side are set to scratch and claw in two different competitions in order to try and return to the Champions League next season.
Huddersfield
A managerial change is always a big decision at the midway point of any campaign, and whilst it may have been a necessity for Huddersfield, it doesn’t feel like anything is going to stop them from dropping into the second tier of English football. They deserve to be commended for being able to remain in the top flight last season, but beyond that, the plaudits should probably stop. The best they can hope for is a miraculous run late in the season, but we’re not entirely sure where it’s going to come from.
Team News
Sabiri, Mbenza and Williams will all miss out, with Chris Lowe being a doubt. Mooy is back to full fitness with Jonathan Hogg being close to a return, with Stevie Mounie being tipped to enter the starting XI.
Arsenal
Counting Arsenal out has been a fun little game for many neutral fans over the last few years, mainly due to their decline under Arsene Wenger. However, given the unpredictable nature of the Premier League this season, they’re still in with a great chance of finishing in the top four. Sure, they probably should’ve strengthened more in January, but that’s all behind them now. Their sole focus needs to be on the task in front of them, because looking past a relegation-threatened side with nothing to lose is incredibly risky.
Team News
Rob Holding and Sokratis are both still out, but Mustafi should be back to full fitness in time for the trip. Aubameyang and Koscielny have struggled with illness throughout the week, but should still be healthy enough to start.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium.
- Huddersfield have one draw and five losses in their last six games.
- Arsenal have three wins and three losses in their last six games.
- Huddersfield have scored one goal and conceded 11 in their last six games.
- Arsenal have scored nine goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
It’s going to be an Arsenal win and if it isn’t, then serious questions need to start being asked around the Emirates. The Terriers are one of the worst Premier League clubs we’ve seen in quite some time, whereas the Gunners have more than enough fire power to battle their way past the relegation contenders. They’ll need to score early in order to avoid any nerves heading into the latter stage of the game, although in typical Arsenal fashion, we can still see them limping over the line before securing the three points.
