The final few weekends of the Premier League are upon us, as we look to settle a few unanswered questions: who will win the title race, who will finish in the top four, who will finish seventh and who will be relegated to the Championship. The most important question of all for this particular fixture is the one concerning the top four, as Manchester United, somehow, still find themselves in with a chance of sneaking in through the back door. In order to keep themselves in the race, though, they’ll need to beat already-relegated Huddersfield.
Huddersfield
There’s no getting around the fact that this has been a disastrous season for Huddersfield, and their fans probably can’t wait for it to all come to an end. Their points total of 14 is one of the worst in the history of the Premier League, and they’ll be absolutely desperate to salvage something from this abomination of a campaign. The plan will obviously be for them to re-group and re-build ahead of their return to the Championship, but as you can imagine, their confidence isn’t going to be particularly high when they get there.
Team News
Billing, Duhaney and Depoitre are all set to be assessed prior to this weekend’s game.
Manchester United
The last few weeks have been tough for United, as they’ve fallen into a really bad run of form at the worst time imaginable. They’re still in the hunt for a Champions League spot, but they need to get their heads in gear. Chelsea and Arsenal already have one foot in the Europa League final, so United have just got to hope that they’re distracted enough to the point where they’ll drop points in the last few games. If they do, then Ole’s men are more than capable of jumping up into fourth.
Team News
David de Gea will start despite his poor recent form, Rashford is back in training, and Bailly will miss the club’s final two games with a knee injury.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting on Boxing Day, Manchester United beat Huddersfield 3-1.
- Huddersfield have lost their last eight games.
- Man United have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Huddersfield have scored five goals and conceded 21 in their last six games.
- Man United have scored three goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Manchester United have really stumbled in recent weeks under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but even with that being the case, this Huddersfield team is one of the worst in the history of the Premier League. It’s hard not to pick up a win against a team like that, even if you’re on a run of form like United are. They’ll know that they’ve been handed a golden opportunity to go after the top four spot once again, and contrary to popular belief, we don’t think they’re going to let it pass them by this time.
