Hull City slipped into the danger zone as they became the first Premier League side to lose to Burnley this season and no doubt Steve Bruce will demand a response from his players. Spurs, on the other hand, ended the promising run as they were beaten at home by Stoke City, meaning they arrive at KC Stadium very low on confidence.
Hull City have made tremendous progress under Steve Bruce and while they narrowly missed out on the FA Cup trophy, the Tigers did manage to experience European football this season even if they failed to make it to Europa League group stages. It was the experienced manager who secured several excellent deals for the club in the dying moments of the summer transfer window, although Hull haven’t quite managed to hit the ground running just yet. And even if the team have now lost last two league fixtures, back to back draws with Arsenal and Liverpool proved the Tigers can be trusted to avoid the relegation tussle, and the two-week break will have done the players a world of good. Steve Bruce went his anger at the players for their performance at Turf Moor and chances are they will respond in a good manner, especially as the likes of Dawson, Jelavic, McGregor and Davis should all return from injury. It is also important to note that Hull played last half an hour against Burnley with ten men as Curtis Davies suffered an injury after all three substitutions had been made, and I fully expect them to show considerable improvement when facing Spurs.
Tottenham Hotspur have been making one step forward two steps back from the very start to the season and new manager Mauricio Pochettino has been powerless to prevent the recent downtrend in fortunes. Spurs have experienced all sorts of problems up front, with the likes of Adebayor, Lamela, Soldado and Kane scoring mere three league goals between them, while the back line does not look too impressive either. The players seem to have lost much needed confidence as they do not react well to going a goal down, while they have allowed Newcastle to come from a goal behind and win at White Hart Lane. Stoke City were the third Premier League team to claim maximum points at the Lane this season and the dismal home record is a major cause for concern. Meanwhile, Spurs were very fortunate to beat West Ham on the road, while also scoring two late goals to win at Villa Park, but I seriously doubt another narrow escape is on the cards at KC Stadium. Kyle Naughton misses out through suspension, whilst Andros Townsend is doubtful having suffered an ankle problem while on international duty.
Conclusion
Hull City appear to be in much better shape than the opposition at the moment and the Tigers have no reason to be worried by the back to back defeats to Saints and Burnley having played good football during the opening exchanges. Meanwhile, Tottenham are completely out of form and I just cannot see them winning at KC Stadium.
