Hungary and Bulgaria will face each other in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group G next week. The match between the Magyars and the Lions will be held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest and is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm UK time next Monday.

Hungary

Hungary are one of the biggest and most well-known footballing nations in Europe. They finished runners-up at the 1938 and the 1954 FIFA World Cup and ended up third at the UEFA European Championship in 1964. Hungary, though, have not much of note in recent years. They have not qualified for the World Cup finals since 1986 and could not get past the group stage at the 2020 European Championship finals.

The Magyars, though, will fancy their chances of progressing from the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group G. The top two teams in the group will qualify for the UEFA Euro 2024 finals. Serbia are the clear favourites in Group G, and Hungary will be battling it out with Montenegro, Bulgaria and Lithuania for the runners-up spot.

Hungary will take on Estonia in a friendly international in Budapest on Thursday before facing Bulgaria in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier. They beat Greece 2-1 in a friendly international match in Budapest in November just days after drawing 2-2 with Luxembourg.

Team News:

Péter Gulácsi, Callum Styles, Dominik Szoboszlai and Roland Sallai all are available for Hungary.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria are one of the minnows in European football and not much is expected of them. While they have produced a few great players in the past, at the moment, they do not tend to do anything of note at international level. The Lions last qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals back in 1998. Bulgaria last featured in the group stage of the European Championship way back in 2004.

However, Bulgaria will fancy an upset in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group G. It is very unlikely that anyone from Bulgaria will even think of challenging Serbia for the top spot, but with Hungary, Montenegro and Lithuania the other teams in the group, the Lions will want to at leats challenge for the runner-up spot.

Bulgaria will kick off their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group G campaign with a home match against Montenegro. The game will be held at the Huvepharma Arena in Razgrad. Their last match was against Luxembourg away from home in a friendly international. It finished in a goalless draw. It came after a 2-0 victory over Cyprus in another friendly game.

Team News:

Daniel Naumov, Ivan Dyulgerov, Hristiyan Petrov, Nikola Iliev and Spas Delev all are available for Bulgaria.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Hungary have won 3 of their last 5 matches.
  • Hungary beat England 4-0 in Wolverhampton in the UEFA Nations League in June 2022.
  • Hungary have scored 9 goals in their last 5 games.
  • Bulgaria have scored 8 goals in their last 5 games,
  • Bulgaria are unbeaten in 6 matches.

Conclusion

The match between Hungary and Bulgaria is going to be tigh and competitive. While Hungary do have a better team and are at home, Bulgaria will know that an early goal could help them eke out a narrow from the encounter. Hungary is likely to win the match, but it is going to be a very narrow victory.

Prediction: Hungary to win 2-1
