We’re already getting to crunch time in the group stage of UEFA Euro 2020 and that means we’ve got plenty of thrilling games ahead of us in the days to come. There are many storylines heading into the next set of fixtures but, arguably, one of the biggest comes in the supposed Group of Death in Group F. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at what should prove to be a really intriguing meeting of the minds between Hungary and France as the march to the knockout stage continues.

Hungary

Hungary weren’t expected to do a whole lot heading into this tournament but what they’ve been able to prove thus far is that they’ve got a whole lot of heart. That probably isn’t going to do them a whole lot of good in a group as competitive as the one they’re in but if they can give either France or Germany a bloody nose before we call time on their stint in Euro 2020, we think that’ll give them a lot of pride to take away heading into World Cup qualifying season.

Nego is being seen as a potential option to feature in this game with Sallai being a fitness doubt, even after starting against Portugal. Elsewhere, Szoboszlai and Kalmar are still going to miss out through injury.

France

France are the world champions and they also happen to have the best squad depth, arguably, in international football. They’ve been the favourites to win Euro 2020 for a long time and now that we’ve actually been able to see them in action, we’re even more confident in backing that idea. They need to stick to their guns, keep playing their own style of football and they’ll be easing through to the latter stages of the knockouts before we know it.

Team News

Pavard is a fitness doubt for this one after being knocked out in the win over Germany. Elsewhere, Benzema is expected to feature after a decent showing in their opener, with very little rotation expected from Didier Deschamps.

• Hungary lost their opener against Portugal 3-0 whereas France beat Germany 1-0.
• Hungary were viewed as the group underdogs coming into the Euros.
• France were viewed as the group favourites coming into the Euros.
• Hungary’s focus dropped off considerably in the final 10 minutes of their opening game.
• France seemed to be in cruise control against a resilient German side.

Conclusion

France quite literally don’t need to do anything other than sit in first gear and they’ll be able to beat most teams in the entire tournament. As such, we think they’re going to produce another display that isn’t quite perfect but will get them over the finish line without issue. The Hungarians will put up a scrap as they battle to keep their place in the tournament but in the end, Les Bleus will run out 2-0 victors to keep up the pressure on Portugal.
