Looking to make an immediate return to winning ways in the early hours of Monday, Instituto will welcome Boca Juniors to the Estadio Presidente Peron.

Instituto

Starting with the hosts, suffering late heartbreak away at Atletico Tucuman earlier in the week as they suffered a 1-0 defeat, Instituto will be seeking an immediate response here. While La Gloria might have spent the whole of last season battling it out at the foot of the Primera Division table, Diego Dabove’s men have made plenty of improvements this time around. Opening June with a 2-1 victory against Gimnasia, the Cordoba-based outfit have collected nine points from their previous four top-flight appearances. Looking to make a heavyweight statement here, Monday’s hosts will also be excited by their recent success on home soil. In fact, Instituto have secured back-to-back victories at the Estadio Presidente Peron since way back in November 2022.

Team News

Not featuring across any competition since the middle of April and still sidelined with a knock, former Platense midfielder Roberto Bochi remains on the sidelines and will not feature here. However, aside from the 37-year-old, Instituto have reported a clean bill of health and have no issues to worry about.

Notching three goals in as many appearances, one-time Rosario youngster Ignacio Russo will play a leading role in the final third. Despite still waiting to open his Primera Division account this season, Facundo Suarez could be handed a recall here.

Boca Juniors

As for the visitors, while Boca Juniors might have secured a Copa Sudamericana boss earlier in the week as they secured a 1-0 win against Independiente Valle, Diego Martinez’s side have drastically struggled to find any kind of domestic stability. Winning just a pair of their opening six Primera Division appearances this season, the Argentinian heavyweights almost find themselves sat in top-flight limbo. Appearing miles away from mounting any kind of title charge this year, the former San Lorenzo boss has some mounting pressure on his shoulders. Facing what could be another tricky test here, Boca should also be worried by their most recent showdown against Instituto. In fact, Martinez’s men were hit with an action-packed 3-2 loss when they welcomed Monday’s hosts to La Bombonera 16 months ago.

Team News

While academy graduate Milton Delgado might have been shown a Copa Sudamericana red card against Independiente del Valle earlier in the week, the 19-year-old is free to feature here. However, still dealing with a muscle injury and not making a single appearance across any competition since the start of March, ex-Tigre defender Lucas Blondel remains on the sidelines.

Marking his full return with a Copa Sudamericana strike in midweek and now finding the net in each of his previous four appearances, former Manchester United superstar Edinson Cavani should spearhead Boca’s charge in the early hours of Monday.

Key Factors to Consider

    • When Instituto and Boca Juniors last met in March 2023, La Gloria picked up a stunning 3-2 victory at La Bombonera.
    • Likewise, Monday’s hosts have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous six meetings against Boca.
    • Instituto have secured back-to-back home victories for the first time since November 2022.
    • Former Manchester United striker Edinson has scored in all of his previous four appearances across all competitions.
    • Boca have recorded just four wins from any of their previous 15 consecutive away victories across all formats.

    Conclusion

Although Boca might have claimed a welcomed Copa Sudamericana boost earlier in the week, Monday’s guests will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, struggling to find any kind of stability since opening up the 2024 campaign, the Argentinian giants will also be concerned by a nightmare record against Instituto. Including a 3-2 loss when they welcomed La Gloria to Buenos Aires back in March 2023, they have collected just a single victory from any of their six previous showdowns.

    Verdict: Instituto double chance

    Best Odds: 1/2
